About the Role

The Gartner R&A Studio translation team is currently looking for a Team Lead

based in Tokyo, Japan. The Team Lead will be responsible for leading a small team of editors ( and translators) to deliver research insights to clients in the local language to impact client experience and support the business. In addition, the Team Lead will be tasked with innovating, scaling content processes and exploring technologies to drive high quality and accelerate content delivery. The position balances content, strategy and management responsibilities. The role must be strongly self-motivated, intellectually curious, articulate and highly problemsolver.

Job Description

  • Lead a small team of editors ( and translators) and effectively manage multiple projects and engagement to support business needs.
  • Define and communicate goals and objectives in alignment with the overall Content Production team. 
  • Ensure quality and timeliness objectives are achieved as part of the global development workflow of digital content, special projects and other work, as necessary.
  • Monitor metrics to optimize capacity and responsibilities and drive desired business goals
  • Partner with stakeholders across teams and business units to ensure effective implementation of process and strategy.
  • Motivate, coach, facilitate, solve work problems, address people-related issues, and be actively involved in the day-to-day activities of the team.
  • Create an environment that fosters teamwork, collaboration, open communication, creative thinking, cohesive team effort and workplace integrity.
  • Cultivate process knowledge and identify areas for constant optimization and scale for growth.
  • Develop strong business acumen within the team, and self, and ensure team members understand their impact to the business.
  • Track and report on team productivity/efficiency, resource utilization and capacity.
  • Oversee the successful implementation of global research operations policies or processes.
  • Continuously seek feedback from R&A teams and other cross-departmental stakeholders to further improve on deliverables. 

Job Requirements

  • BA in English, Journalism, Creative Writing or related degree, or equivalent experience 
  • A minimum 5 years of editorial and translating experience, or equivalent experience in a research/consulting company. Experience in people management or mentoring is preferred.
  • Strong business acumen
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills in Japanese and English
  • Demonstrated performance against objectives
  • Experience leading and managing projects, including in driving to consensus, moving forward and getting things done amongst large, global, and diverse groups of constituents.
  • Proven ability to solve problems and own initiatives while mitigating risk
  • Good understanding of editorial/translating processes and working knowledge of publishing environments
  • Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to coach others in a team 
  • Strong analytical thinking and skills with the ability to synthesize information, summarize issues and think creatively
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite. Experience in using translation management software is a plus.
