Job Description

SUMMARY: 

Reporting to the Assistant Vice President of Inclusive Excellence and Special Assistant to the President (AVP & SA), the Inclusive Excellence Programs and Engagement Specialist (“the IEP Specialist”) will support and foster a work and learning environment of inclusive excellence, equity, and belonging. As the inaugural IEP Specialist, the incumbent will develop and support programs for faculty, staff, students, alumni and community stakeholders at Montclair State University.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Co-lead the Committee of Inclusive Excellence supporting the AVP & SA with the implementation of recommendations from the Campus Climate Assessment, including action plan development.
  • Support the partnership of key stakeholder groups including Human Resources, Office of Faculty Excellence, Enrollment Management, Student Affairs and Campus Life, University Police, and other key University groups to implement DEIB programs and development initiatives.
  • Oversee the development, implementation, and engagement of Employee Resource and Affinity groups for the Montclair State employee population. Support the AVP & SA employee engagement initiatives to further inclusion, and belonging.
  • Oversee all aspects of DEIBJ learning and development for the University including search committee equity and training process including expanding the annual search committee training requirements, providing guidance and support to search committee chairpersons and hiring managers, review committee pools to ensure the candidate pool and recruitment procedures are diverse and inclusive, and provide final review of applicants presented for hire. Collaborate with Human Resources, Learning and Development, and Talent Acquisition on this process.
  • Implement diversity, equity and inclusion efforts at the University, collaborating with staff and faculty members to implement and enhance current programs and initiatives including recruitment of students, faculty and staff.
  • Collaborate with unit staff to develop and design high-quality, research-based diversity workshops.
  • Serve on institutional committees including Committee for Inclusive Excellence and Bias Response committees.
  • Provide administrative support to the Committee for Inclusive Excellence and oversee administrative functions.
  • Evaluate and assess educational experiences to ensure alignment with institutional goals, learning objectives, and organizational needs.
  • Assist the AVP & SA with the analysis, monitoring, and dissemination of institutional data to benchmark and promote accountability for DEI and belonging.
  • Manage communications and scheduling for outreach and engagement activities.
  • Oversee the management of the Inclusive Excellence website, and social media engagement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

REQUIRED: 

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • A minimum of three years of professional work experience in anti-bias education and/or diversity, equity and inclusion education and programming.
  • Experience with outreach and support of individuals with historically and presently marginalized identities (i.e., BIPOC {Black, Indigenous, People of Color} identity, LGBTQ+ community, people with disabilities, non-Christian communities, etc.)
  • Knowledge of key principles and theories around diversity, equity, and inclusion constructs.

PREFERRED:

  • Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Four or more years of professional work experience in anti-bias education and/or diversity, equity and inclusion education and programming.
  • Additional experience with bias response or restorative justice practices, or related practices.
  • Understanding of the cultural competency, cultural engagement and student affairs and student development practice.
  • Experience supporting employees.
  • Experience directly supporting faculty.
  • Higher education experience.
