Responsibilities

Is assigned projects by the Department Coordinator, Manager, or Director that require a comprehensive understanding of general health care operations, complex financial modeling and the ability to operate at a high level of independent thinking. Conducts complex operational and financial analyses and provides training and education in a mentoring relationship to lower level financial analysts. Also assumes the coordination of large non-routine projects as assigned by the Department Coordinator, Manager or Director. 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Coordinates and conducts complex financial analysis and modeling projects using decision support systems, data warehouses or other data and analytical tools with little or no supervision. Such projects often require unassisted research and would include financial and operational analyses for new and existing programs and services, departmental profitability review, clinical and physician reporting, and strategic planning support.
  2. Understands many of the available decision support systems and the Charge Master. Understands the relationships between other system points of entry, definitions, data flow, and functionality in order to retrieve needed data and make necessary enhancements to Department’s ability to meet Hospital Management needs.
  3. Understands how the major functions and processes in financial, coding and compliance decision processes are related and understands how changes within one process may affect other functions.
  4. Has in-depth knowledge of many healthcare financial topics; for example, hospital reimbursement, cost accounting, operating budgets, capital investment analysis, profitability statements, accounting principles, revenue cycle management and performance development.
  5. Proactively develops improved methods of reporting and analyzing both clinical and financial data that will enhance the operations.
  6. Anticipates both Department and Hospital Management informational needs and is able to interpret and communicate the data necessary to meet those needs in multiple formats (verbal, written reports and Power Point presentations). Also, consistently offers conclusions and recommendations based on the data provided.
  7. Serves as a mentor, leader and role model and provides training and education to other staff within the department. Also provides education and insight into financial operations to members of the Hospital management team.
  8. Plans and perform projects under a high level of autonomy and within tight timeframes.
  9. Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and department policies and procedures. Immediately reports any mechanical or electrical equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions, or employee/patient/visitor injury-accident to Manager. 

Qualifications

REQUIRED

  1. B.S. degree in Business or Health Administration.
  2. Three (3) to five (5) years of decision support or health care finance experience. One to two years of financial analysis experience must be operating at a high level of autonomy.
  3. Experience in the development and management of complex project plans.
  4. Experience in training/educating and supervising others.
  5. Demonstrated knowledge of computers and micro computer applications.
  6. Skills in using Microsoft office projects; intermediate or higher level ability with Excel & Access applications.
  7. Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, and analyze significant amount of information with attention to detail and accuracy. 
  8. Demonstrated advanced communication skills in written, reports and oral formats.
  9. Experience with decision support products.

PREFERRED

  1. Master’s in Business Administration or Health Administration.
  2. Designation as Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
  3. Two years experience as a Senior Financial Analyst or Health Care Consultant.
  4. Strong knowledge of and experience with databases using SQL or other advanced system languages. Adept at creating and managing complex queries.
