As a member of the CSPR GL team, to negotiate, underwrite and manage the business of reinsurance treaties of credit, surety and single/political risk insurance for the French, Nordic (excluding the Baltics) as well as the South-African markets (including the African Multilateral cedent ATIDI, based in Kenya). To help with the selection of reinsurance offers and the quality of trade relations, to contribute to the CSPR GL Underwriting Plan and to perform market studies for the further development of the department and SCOR Global P&C Reinsurance as a whole. DEPARTMENT: 

The Credit, Surety and Single/Political Risk treaty team (part of SCOR’s P&C Global Line treaty team) is comprised of 14 Underwriters and one Business Analyst, located in New-York, Miami, Paris, Zurich, Singapore, Beijing, and Hong Kong respectively. The CSPR GL team manages and supervises a global portfolio which is generating about EUR 610mln of premium income. Its markets are divided between North and Latin America, Europe, Middle East, and Africa as well as Asia-Pacific. The team is recognized to be amongst the leaders for these treaty lines of business globally. 

The proportion of the Trade Credit Insurance re-insurance portfolio is 45%, 40% is coming from Surety business while 15% of the premium is written through single/political risk treaty business.

Key duties and responsibilities

Under the authority of this Department and associated to the portfolio assigned to this job as described above, your responsibilities include:

  • Build and nurture quality business relationships with our clients, to advise on the terms and conditions of insurance and reinsurance (general conditions, prices ...), provide technical advice on commercial and risk underwriting, monitor the in-force business and claims/recovery. 
  • Review each special acceptance requests or facultative requests with risk assessment and due diligence to come up with underwriting decisions/recommendation (agree/decline) which is supported by the reasons from the review.
  • Perform client portfolio visits and file audits to gain a better and thorough understanding of the cedent’s underwriting approach, technical expertise, and buyer risk analysis and to get a proper evaluation of (pending) claims.
  • Investigate, negotiate, and underwrite Credit, Surety and Single/Political Risk reinsurance submissions (Principal / buyer balance sheet analysis, portfolio analysis of ceding companies, sector and country risk analysis, analysis of the conditions for the selection and the pricing of (re-insurance).
  • Support on-going tasks relating to the management and monitoring of the in-force portfolio assigned as well as new business generated (data management/ coordination, aggregation reporting, recording of new and renewal business, contract review, etc.).
  • Conduct statistical and technical studies within your area of responsibility to gain a better and thorough understanding of the markets within the respective countries, to promote and help to establish this line of business and to increase our influence and relevance for the sector within the market.
  • In the context of coming up with (and/or updating) the annual CSPR GL Underwriting Plan, to provide input and proposals to the CSPR GL CUO for the markets assigned to you.
  • Promote and establish this line of business with the P&C colleagues to increase our influence and relevance in the market through seminars, conferences, and workshops. 

Required experience & competencies

Having received a graduate training, ideally in economics/finance, risk management or mathematics, you have a proven experience of five to ten years in direct credit and/or surety and/or single/political risk (re-) insurance underwriting. You have excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills and are teamwork oriented. You are independent, organized, and rigorous in your working style and analysis and willing to travel extensively. You are fluent (incl. in writing) in English and French.
