UCT is looking for a talented Senior Manager, EHS in Austin, TX! The Senior Environmental, Health, and Safety Manager is a critical role responsible for overseeing the effective management and implementation of environmental, health, and safety programs. This position requires a strategic approach to ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal EHS regulations while fostering a generative safety culture and engaging employees in promoting safety across the facility. The Senior EHS Manager will lead initiatives to minimize risks, identify opportunities for continuous improvement in EHS performance, and collaborate with various departments/teams to integrate EHS best practices into the overall operational framework.

Key Responsibilities: 

1. EHS Program Development and Management:

  • Lead implementation of Corporate EHS policies and procedures across the assigned facilities.
  • Ensure EHS programs are effective, sustainable, and integrated into the organization's operations.
  • Oversee environmental management including waste management, pollution prevention, and initiatives.

2. Compliance and Auditing:

  • Keep abreast of, interpreting, and ensuring compliance with all relevant local, state, and federal environmental, health, and safety laws and regulations.
  • Initiate and maintain proactive measures for EHS audit readiness, including continuous monitoring of processes, documentation accuracy, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to address potential audit findings proactively.
  • Submit environmental, health, and safety reports, forms, permit renewal documents according to the compliance calendar and the records.

3. Training and Development:

  • Identify the training and development needs for all employees across the assigned facilities.
  • Develop and deliver EHS training programs for employees at all levels.
  • Keep up to date with new legislation and best practices in the field of EHS and incorporate these into the facility policy and procedures.

4. Incident Investigation and Reporting:

  • Lead the investigation of accidents and near-miss incidents to determine root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Develop and implement corrective and preventive actions and monitor their effectiveness to prevent recurrence and enhance safety measures.
  • Prepare and submit accident reports required by regulatory agencies.

5. Risk Assessment and Emergency Response:

  • Lead risk assessment across all operations, coordinate with front-line supervisors, define relevant metrics, prioritize identified risks based on severity and likelihood, and formulate strategic action plans and timelines to effectively address and mitigate potential risks at the facility.
  • Develop and maintain site emergency response plans and procedures.
  • Collaborate with site management team and EHS leadership to enhance Business Continuity Plan, actively identifying and implementing strategies to reduce operational risks and ensure resilience in the face of potential disruptions.

6. Leadership and Team Management:

  • Provide leadership, direction, and development opportunities to the site management team, and supervisors as subject matter expert.
  • Foster a generative safety culture among all employees through involving site management and front-line supervisors, continuous communication, promoting a collective commitment to safety awareness, and adherence to best practices within the facility.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to direct reports and foster collaborative relationships with management team, peers, and cross-functional teams to ensure seamless coordination and achievement of destination zero goal.

7. Continuous Improvement:

  • Monitor EHS performance metrics and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement by proactively identifying opportunities for enhancement, taking initiative to implement innovative solutions, and cultivating a dynamic environment that encourages ongoing growth and efficiency.
  • Stay informed on emerging EHS technologies and practices for potential adoption.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Occupational Safety and Health, Engineering, or related field. A Master’s degree is a plus.
  • Relevant professional certifications (e.g., CSP, CIH, CHMM) are highly desirable.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in EHS roles, with at least 3-5 years in a managerial position.
  • Strong knowledge of EHS regulations and standards (e.g., OSHA, EPA, DOT).
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to develop and manage EHS programs in a corporate setting.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to train and influence at all levels within the organization.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, effective communication, and the ability to collaborate seamlessly with diverse teams.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Strong background in EHS with substantial experience in a leadership role.
  • In-depth knowledge of EHS regulations and best practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement effective EHS programs and strategies.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strategic thinker with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Relevant academic qualifications and professional certifications.
  • Lean Six Sigma certification (Green or Black Belt) is a plus.
