Job Purpose

Stanford’s University Information Technology (UIT) organization services diverse clients from various business units and schools. We are a hub of systems analysts, developers, testers and architects who design, build and enhance applications to support core functions of the University.The Enterprise Technology unit is seeking an experienced Oracle APEX developer. This role is primarily responsible for developing web applications and supporting & enhancing existing applications using Oracle Application Express, PL/SQL, Web Services, and other development tools for the Alumni and Development Applications Platform Transition (ADAPT) Program. Additional responsibilities include working with business analysts, internal IT resources, and contractors both onshore and offshore on the resolution of production and critical issues. The qualified candidate will execute programming tasks, including programming, analyzing, designing, developing, implementing, modifying, and maintaining computer programs. It will entail working on systems of moderate size and complexity or segments of larger systems.

The expected pay range for this position is $101,000 to $145,000 per annum. Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.

Core Duties

  • Conceptualize design, implement, and develop solutions for complex systems/programs independently.
  • Work with a variety of users to gain information, and develop intra-system trade-offs between different users, as necessary; interact with a diverse client base and outside vendor contacts.
  • Document system builds and application configurations; maintain and update documentation as needed.
  • Provide technical analysis, design, development, conversion, and implementation work.
  • Work as a project leader, as needed, for projects of moderate complexity.
  • Serve as a technical resource for applications.
  • Compare, evaluate, and implement new features and technologies, and integrate them into the computing environment.
  • Follow team software development methodology.
  • Mentor lower-level software developers.
  • Other duties may also be assigned.

Education & Experience

Bachelor's degree and five years of relevant experience, or a combination of education and relevant experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Expertise in designing, developing, testing, and deploying applications.
  • Experience with Oracle Application Express.
  • Experience with PL/SQL.
  • Experience in Java, JavaScript, Web Services, AJAX, XML, HTML, and CSS.
  • Experience developing complex SQL Queries and Oracle Database.
  • Experience with SQL Tuning.
  • Ability to define and solve logical problems for highly technical applications.
  • Ability to lead activities on structured team development projects.
  • Ability to select, adapt, and effectively use a variety of programming methods.
  • Ability to recognize and recommend needed changes in user and operations procedures including participation in code reviews.
  • Ability to communicate with both technical and non-technical clients.
  • Proficiency with application design and data modeling.

Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Experience configuring services for performance, security, and error handling.
  • Experience designing, developing, and testing packages, procedures, functions, views, and triggers.
  • Experience with Data Services and ETL tools.
  • Experience with environment management, release management, code versioning, deployment methodologies, and CI/CD tools.
  • Knowledge and integration experience with ERP solutions.
  • Relevant IT design experience.

Physical Requirements

  • Perform desk-based computer tasks.
  • Frequently sit, grasp lightly/fine manipulation.
  • Occasionally stand/walk, writing by hand.
  • Rarely use a telephone, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.

Working Conditions

  • May work extended hours, evenings, and weekends.
  • Available for on-call work.
