Manager Architectural Outfitting & Design – Interior & Out-decks

Position Summary:

The Manager Architectural Outfitting & Design-Interior provides a manager role as part of the Architectural outfitting & design Team, that is led by Head of Department, see below organization structure. Manager Architectural Outfitting & Design is reporting directly to Head of Department. In this role she /he manages and coordinates architectural detailed design work for Newbuild projects. Leads and develops a team of Architectural team superintendents and works in tight collaboration with the site office management and shipyard’s related design coordination, quality verification, risk assessments, cost complexities, various design phases, inspection and commissioning as well as finalization of the ship towards first revenue cruise, within a sustainability mindset and outfitting optimization. Coordination of various workstreams is part of the daily work including maintaining the schedule jointly with all key stakeholders. People management skills are the key to successful role in this position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Supports Department Head on-site and in collaboration with the Miami design team, brand, and other site offices the assigned Architectural projects, cross-coordinating effectively external architectural, interior design and consultancy firms, guiding the design they provide.
  2. Strong team builder, that works in seamless manner with Project Management, Architectural design teams in house and external designers as well as other consulting companies. Brings teams closer with open communication between the Design team, Yard, Brand, technical team.
  3. Manages delivering brand specific vessel all interior and out-decks, designs, in accordance with both design intent concepts given and shipyard contracts.
  4. Leads Design reviews, jointly with yard design manager, to ensure that joint Status update and critical items are effectively identified, and assessed and addressed in a timely manner, towards mitigation plan.
  5. Develops, together with Department Head and internal key stakeholders as well as with yard and other external stakeholder KPI’s to track the good progress of the projects.
  6. Responsible, but not limited, for guest interior areas, guest stateroom accommodations, appearance of interior, out-decks, art, loose furniture, interface, and integration of the technical elements, etc. for all projects within the site office.
  7. Manages eventual modifications within these areas with designers and architects. Prepares the Modification requests for changes in areas and coordinates these aspects with the Head Department, Project Manager, informing appropriate team members.
  8. Organizes planning of various architect, designer, lighting design, catering equipment, artwork, signage coordination meetings, visits, and inspections, in tight synchronization with delivering to shipyard milestones
  9. Supports design intent drawing reviews, guides detail drawing reviews, factory visits, mockup reviews, and inspections. Responsible of quality approval of Mock-ups, Area Outfitting, etc.
  10. Leads Hotel and design mock-up reviews and first of production inspection of public spaces, guest staterooms, corridors, etc. for assigned responsibilities and align the design requirements with technical mock-up responsible team members, focus on outfitting quality and supporting design issues to the Team.
  11. Leads an efficient supervision process ensuring that design goals, design quality and design standards/guidelines are met. projects are on budget; ship readiness is on time.
  12. Responsible of conducting a Value Engineering Proposal of the areas under his/her supervision. Aiming Cost optimization without being on detriment of the agreed design.
  13. Spends solid and routine time walking onboard the vessels as they are under construction, up to and beyond delivery until such time they are successfully in service. 
  14. Leads Architectural outfitting & hotel superintendents & consultants, ensuring a continual evaluation of the quality and suitability of their work.
  15. Support Department Head (owner of the Architectural cost management towards the budget), at the cost management such as design cost complexity in all responsible interior, areas, including art installations, signage, architectural lighting, etc. Responsible of evaluating the Reference Vessel areas Cost Complexity against new designs. Keeps Project Management regularly informed.
  16. Maintains good relations with shipyard leadership and management in related area, along with shipyard’s area coordinators and turn-key contractors.
  17. Plans, coordinate and guides detailed design phase while cross coordinating and sharing best practices effectively between external architectural, interior design and consultancy firms, guiding the design they provide. With an outfitting optimization and sustainability mindset.

  19. Studies, collects, shares, compare, stores statistical information, and analyze various ships and areas bringing forth observations.
  20. Creates presentations and reports for design management and project management.
  21. Effectively use the mission control support for reporting and coordination of tasks.
  22. Regularly assists and occasionally conducts practicality reviews to check that operational, risk or accessibility concerns are being considered in all aspects of design. 
  23. Stays current in industry trends and innovation through research and market knowledge.

  25. He/she may be called on supporting other projects on different Site Offices by supporting RCG Company needs and goals.

Financial Responsibilities

  1. Support of multimillion dollar design projects. 
  2. Works with Department Head budgetary planning.
  3. Support Department Head having a close link to project manager & project management team. Head of Department.
  4. Oversees constructions supervision at the design areas, hours of design team, design consulting working hours for the project.

Qualifications:

  1. Minimum of 10 years cruise design industry experience required. Minimum of 5 years managing large scale projects.
  2. Minimum of 1 years managing direct reports preferred.
  3. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Interior Design required, (Naval) Architecture preferred. 
  4. Cruise ship newbuild or revitalization design experience preferred. 

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge of cruise ship interiors, staterooms, crew areas, open decks, catering/BOH preferred. 
  • Must possess skills in at least 2 of the following: AutoCAD, Excel, Powerpoint, Photoshop, Sketchup; Microsoft Project, is a plus.
  • Is highly motivated, efficient, and organized. Has fundamental understanding of time management, with priorities being established by supervisor. Works on multiple projects, and multiple tasks under various team members. Has strong ability to maintain focus.
  • Ability to travel internationally or domestically 20% of the time.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with strong ability to effectively communicate with all levels of management and employees, across diverse cultures around the world.
  • Requires a high level of written and verbal communication skills to convey concepts and requirements of the team to technical and non-technical individuals. Is effective at simplifying complexity.
  • Requires strong teamwork and collaborative leadership skills to develop rapport within the department, with other departments, and externally.
  • Possesses self-motivation with ability to mobilize people and resources to action, within a high-paced environment.
  • Good ability to proactively identify problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
  • Possesses logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
  • Able to work in multicultural working environment and willingness to travel extensively.
  • Working knowledge of computer software for communication and presentations. 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Excellent written & verbal English is a must.
  • Other languages are a plus.

Physical Demands:

Good physical condition, able to endure extensive walking and stairclimbing within a heavy and loud shipbuilding construction environment.
