The Manager, General Accounting is responsible for directing and managing the General Accounting activities for HUGO BOSS in the United States and Canada, such as preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with IFRS, including all related tasks in the general ledger (e.g., fixed assets, inventory (valuation), provisions, FX valuation, etc.). The Manager, General Accounting acts for internal and external business partner and is a contact person for financial operational matters, as well as for auditors in the connection of (internal/external) audits.

In this role, you will also be in charge of ensuring the compliance with the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and HUGO BOSS group accounting guidelines and act as a business partner to improve the quality of the financial close. You will support in the implementation of projects related to the improvement and further development of workflows and processes for the Accounting team.

Lastly, you will be working closely with related Finance teams (Accounts Payables & Treasury, Credit department and Tax department), Financial Analysis & Planning, Loss Prevention and Inventory Control, Legal, HR and business departments to develop the team to a BEST in CLASS Finance Team. You are the functional support for the Director of Accounting and role model, driver, and professional support for its direct reports. 

The position is based New York headquarters. 

What you can expect:

Responsibilities include, but not limited to the following:

  • Ensure the timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and year-end close based on internal as well headquarter (HQ) deadlines of HUGO BOSS in the United States and Canada.
  • Manage and responsible for all daily accounting activities.
  • Manage and responsible for all (internal/external) audits for HB USA and HB Canada.
  • Safeguard the preparation of the monthly workpapers and reconciliation for all Balance Sheet accounts.
  • Lead and train the accounting professionals in timely and accurate execution of relevant processes
  • Oversee and manage the general accounting entries (such as Inventory, Fixed Assets, Accruals and Provisions entries) in SAP daily.
  • Review Intercompany balances as well as reconcile Intercompany transactions.
  • Execute consolidation within the US entities.
  • Establish and maintain fiscal files and records to document transactions.
  • Adapt accounting guidelines based on HQ procedures and IFRS updates.
  • Document internal procedures, assign direct staff to ensure compliance and accuracy.
  • Serve as main point of contact for HQ (Group Accounting), consultants and audit firm on any accounting issues.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Self-driven to improve accounting entries and procedures.
  • Assist with System development and implementation projects.
  • Act as “sparring partner” for other business departments (e.g. IT) to ensure Finance compliance with the new processes.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Your profile:

  • BS/BA in Finance or Accounting, MBA in accounting a plus
  • 7+ years of professional accounting/finance experience required
  • Proven knowledge of IFRS accounting principles, practices, standards, laws and regulations.
  • Experience in leading a team of professionals.
  • Knowledge of SAP (R/3) a plus.
  • Industry (Retail/WHS/eCommerce) is plus.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft applications (particularly MS Excel).
  • Must be able to work independently and take initiative, hands-on mentality.
  • Detail oriented, enthusiastic, and resilient.
  • Strong verbal and communication skills as well as project management skills.
  • Ability to multitask and work under deadlines.

The expected base salary range for this position is from $100,000 - $110,000. It is not typical for offers to be made at or near the top of the range. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered.
