Rapiscan Systems is seeking a Temporary Buyer Planner to join our team for a 5 month assignment. This individual will make procurement and purchasing decisions based on the departmental requests and needs and ensure service and operations have the required supply on an as needed basis.

Responsibilities

  • Perform day-to-day purchasing functions to ensure material is available and customer requirements are met.
  • Expedite supply when required to ensure on-time shipment. This includes priority order expediting.
  • Determine quantity of material to be purchased based on cost and inventory targets in accordance with inventory model.
  • Resolve anticipated or current shortages of parts and plan accordingly.
  • Responsible for all decisions affecting how individual components are planned within the structure of the inventory model.
  • Responsible for managing the inventory level of all components.
  • Report to their manager any inventory or demand activity that appears to be extraordinary. Manage backorders and immediate supply issues that impact current backlog.
  • Maintain and update the systems within the department that involve the assigned area of responsibility.
  • Develop strong relationships with factories and suppliers in order to ensure cost and delivery objectives are met.
  • Optimize inventory holding through effective planning and planned obsolescence.
  • Support the manager in assigned project work.
  • Communicate to necessary parties when shipping commitments cannot be met due to supplier or planning performance.
  • Resolve issues with non-conforming inventory.
  • Work with vendors on returns or fixes of non-conforming inventory.
  • Work with Finance team to enter new vendors into system.
  • Uphold the company’s core values of Integrity, Innovation, Accountability, and Teamwork.
  • Demonstrate behavior consistent with the company’s Code of Ethics and Conduct.
  • It is the responsibility of every employee to report to their manager or a member of senior management any quality problems or defects in order for corrective action to be implemented and to avoid recurrence of the problem.
  • Duties may be modified or assigned at any time to meet the needs of the business.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree preferred. Years of experience may be substituted in lieu of degree.
  • 2+ years of purchasing or materials management experience desired. Experience in a distribution environment preferred.
  • At least 2 years of experience in a team-based work environment.
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • APICS Certification a plus.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
