Position Information

Engineering Support Technician I (SR-15)

$3,884/month

Performs a variety of moderately difficult subprofessional, technical functions in general support of professional engineering activities; and performs other related duties as required.

Engineering Support Technician (EST) I may progress up the career ladder to an EST II (SR-17). However, the EST I DOES NOT PROGRESS TO THE PROFESSIONAL ENGINEER SERIES, such as Civil Engineer I-V, Electrical Engineer I-V, or Mechanical Engineer I-V.

Current Vacancies:

There are (4) vacancies with the Honolulu Board of Water Supply, Capital Projects Division, Engineering Support Section. These positions are responsible for performing a variety of moderately difficult subprofessional and technical functions in general support of professional designing and construction engineering projects and activities. Under general instructions, this position assists in gathering required data for the division to maintain project efficiency, budget and contract management, and task coordination. Records data promptly ensuring the quality and completeness of the information; monitoring and tracking various requirements and schedules; compiling statistics and generates status reports; reporting required information and potential issues promptly; assists in the coordination of information and actions throughout the planning, design, and construction phases of limited scope of projects. Provides other support duties to the project team as required. The position maintains effective communication and working relationship with fellow employees, government officials, consulting engineers, contractors, and the general public.

There is (1) vacancy with the Department of Environmental Services, Wastewater Engineering & Construction Division.

Special Working Conditions: Assisting in project site investigations may involve hiking through rough terrain and heavy brush; climbing ladders to inspect structures over 20-feet in height. Investigations may also require entering enclosed reservoirs, manholes, and tunnels.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

At time of application, you must be a citizen, national or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT

Equivalent to graduation from high school with courses in mathematics. Responsible work experience which demonstrated the ability to perform the essential functions of the job may be substituted for education.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT

Two years of technical experience in engineering oriented support functions such as in research, data collection and analysis, inspection, testing, designing, surveying and/or drafting activities.

Substitution: An associate's degree from a regionally-accredited college or university in Engineering Technology or Natural Sciences and/or a bachelor's degree from a regionally-accredited four-year college or university in Engineering or in a Biological or Physical Science will substitute for all of the required experience.

Education obtained outside of the United States must be comparable to a degree earned at a regionally-accredited college/university in the United States. In order to receive credit for the education, a foreign credential evaluation (FCE) must be provided. We also reserve the right to request further information about your academic program, evidence of comparability, or an original transcript.

LICENSE REQUIREMENT

Valid Hawaii State driver's license (Type 3/automobile), as required. Current vacancy requires a Type 3 driver's license, prior to appointment.
