Benefits

IndyStar is seeking an audience-focused commercial growth and development reporter. This reporter will write about retail and other businesses entering and leaving central Indiana, as well as the labor/job market.

IndyStar is winner of three Pulitzer Prizes, including in 2021 for national reporting. We recently received a $2 million investment from our parent company, Gannett, to turbocharge local journalism in Central Indiana. You’ll work with and learn from some of journalism’s best while living in a vibrant and diverse city in the heart of the Midwest.

The growth and development reporter will produce a steady diet of dailies along with enterprise, using analytics to track what information Indiana residents want and need. As Indianapolis is a competitive journalism market, a successful reporter must bring a sense of urgency to their work and a desire to break news first and produce stories not available elsewhere.

Our town may be competitive, but our newsroom is collaborative. This reporter can expect to work with colleagues on a range of beats, particularly the residential growth and development, city hall and community reporters.

Every IndyStar reporter is expected to seek out and represent diverse racial, ethnic, and economic perspectives in their work.

Our mission is clear: IndyStar informs, empowers and inspires the people of Central Indiana with our journalism. We deliver journalism that is essential to the communities we serve with urgency. We are a people-centered newsroom that’s obsessed with thoughtful experimentation and developing our next generation of industry leaders.
