Job Description:

What You’ll Get to Do:

As an Entry-level Configuration Management Specialist, you will support the Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD) and will play a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and reliability of U.S. Navy combat system software and processes. You will be responsible for controlling all computer program components, quality assurance, performing independent verification and validation tasks, compiling deliveries, and maintaining documentation and standard operating procedures.

You must be willing to work onsite in King George, VA and travel to Dahlgren, VA as needed. Applicants with current/active DoD Secret-level security clearance preferred.

More About the Role:

Control of Computer Program Components:

  • Manage and maintain all computer program components, including source code, executable files, libraries, and configurations utilizing industry best practices.
  • Implement version control and change management processes to track and manage changes to program components effectively.
  • Ensure the integrity and consistency of program components across different environments and platforms.

Independent Verification and Validation (IV&V):

  • Collaborate with development teams to define and implement quality assurance processes and standards.
  • Conduct testing and evaluation of software components to ensure compliance with quality requirements and specifications.
  • Document and report defects, anomalies, and deviations from standards, and work with development teams to address issues promptly.

Compilation of Deliveries:

  • Coordinate with project managers and stakeholders to gather and compile product deliverables.
  • Independently compile and rebuild computer programs and ensuring all pieces and parts required to build and execute the program has been delivered.
  • Automate processes and implement software pipelines using tools like BitBucket, GitLab, and Artifactory
  • Ensure that all deliverables are complete, accurate, and properly documented.
  • Organize and maintain delivery repositories for easy access and reference.

Documentation and SOP Updating:

  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of program configurations, processes, and procedures.
  • Update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and work instructions as needed to reflect changes or improvements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment and consistency in documentation.

You’ll Bring These Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, or physical science and 0-3 years of related work experience.
  • Will need to have the ability to obtain and maintain, at minimum, a Secret Level Security Clearance. (US Citizenship is required in order to obtain a security clearance from the DoD.)
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively in a team environment.

These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:

  • Exposure to configuration management principles, quality assurance methodologies, and software development lifecycle processes, and Various Operating Systems (Linux, Solaris) is a plus.
  • Proficiency in relevant software tools and systems (e.g., version control systems, issue tracking systems (Jira)) preferred.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Power BI, SharePoint, and Power Automate.
  • Familiarity with DevSecOps processes, including security practices integrated into the software development lifecycle.
  • Familiarity with writing scripts for automation processes (bash, ksh).
  • Exposure to software bill of materials (SBOM) and its importance in managing software of complex systems.
