Colgate-Palmolive is looking for a Senior Marketing Counsel to help drive the portfolio of Legal-Marketing matters within the North America Division. In this role, you will work with a variety of cross-functional leaders to support product innovation and development, claims generation and substantiation, sustainability claims and strategy, global strategy, and execution plans throughout the U.S. and Canada. You will serve as an integral member of the Company's Global Marketing Speciality team, educating and training members on legal best practices, assist in setting global digital/social media strategies, and improving processes, templates, and procedures. 

This role is based out of our NYC headquarters and reports into the Chief Marketing Counsel, North America. It also has indirect supervision of a team of paralegals. 

What you will do:

  • Serve as the Legal counsel to Marketing and R&D teams, providing legal strategy and guidance around products and claims
  • Work to ensure legal compliance with applicable federal and state advertising and promotion laws, regulations, guidance and decisions
  • Evaluate and identify risk regarding advertising and broader commercial activities and challenges (e.g., ecommerce, digital and social media)
  • Provide counsel on Marketing and Advertising contracts and transactions
  • Liaise on Intellectual Property matters, including identifying copyright, patent, and trademark issues
  • Partner with the Litigation team on various legal and regulatory matters 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's and J.D. degree
  • 8+ years of experience in a corporate legal environment, law firm, or other business envrionment specializing in Marketing Law 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Understanding of marketing legal issues, including claims, potential legal and business risks, and regulatory frameworks
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate across the business and legal organizaiton 
  • Ethics and integrity with the ability to balance business relationships with independent legal review and advice
  • Strong leadership, collaboration, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and multi-task when needed
  • Proven analytical and quantitative skills
  • Ability and desire to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment 

Compensation and Benefits

Salary Range $158,400.00 - $233,100.00 USD

Pay is based on multiple non-discriminatory, individualized factors including but not limited to experience, job-related knowledge and education, skills and office/market location. In addition to base salary, salaried employees are eligible for annual discretionary bonuses, profit-sharing and, for Executive-level (salary grade 16 and above) roles only, long-term incentives in the form of Restricted Stock Units and/or Stock Options.

Subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable benefits plans then in effect, all salaried employees are also eligible for a competitive benefits package which includes:

  • Insurance: Employees (and their eligible dependents) are eligible to participate in Company-sponsored Medical, Dental, Vision, Basic Life Insurance, Accidental Death & Dismemberment and Disability insurance plans.
  • Retirement Plans: Employees are eligible to enroll in Colgate's 401(k) plan, which provides for company matching contributions subject to eligibility requirements
  • Vacation/PTO: Employees receive a minimum of 15 days of vacation/PTO leave annually
  • Paid Holidays: Employees receive a minimum of 13 paid/floating holidays annually
  • Paid Sick Leave: Based on location and consistent with applicable state and local law, employees receive a minimum of 40 hours of paid sick leave on January 1st of each year
  • Paid Parental Leave: Eligible employees may take up to eight weeks of paid parental leave and 12 weeks of unpaid leave (varies for employees with fewer than 12 months of service and is subject to hours worked requirements)
