EMPLOYMENT TERMS: 12-month, Full-time position, Overnight Shift

PRIMARY DUTY:

Under direction, police officers enforce and promote awareness of University policy and 

procedures, local, state, and federal laws. Officers patrol and writes complex criminal and civil 

reports. They maintain a high degree of independence, initiative, and interaction with all

factions of the campus community. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Enforce University policies, municipal, state, and federal laws and statues 
  2. Provide emergency response 
  3. Enforce University policies, municipal, state, and federal laws and statues
  4. Protect the lives and property of citizens
  5. Assist in the investigation of cases
  6. Performs traffic and parking enforcement
  7. Patrol throughout University owned property
  8. Building checks on foot 
  9. Assist in the investigation of ongoing cases and daily cases reported to UPD
  10. Assist in the protection and security at University events 
  11. Provides information and assistance to the public
  12. Communicates legibly and clearly
  13. Ability to analyze stressful situations under minimal supervision
  14. Provide community policing models and perform public presentations 
  15. All other duties as assigned 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: High School Diploma 

Experience: Two years’ experience in a customer oriented field 

Skills: Ability to receive an maintain a Missouri Driver’s License and successfully complete a criminal 

background check, Attention to detail, Communication skills, including oral, written, and/or nonverbal, Human Relations/Interpersonal skills, Leadership skills: organization/meeting facilitation/project leadership, Maintain confidentiality

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: 2 years college/university 

Certification/License: Missouri Peace Officer Certification or a Peace officers 

Certification from a compact state 

Experience: 1 years’ experience as a Peace Officer 

Location: Live within 20 minutes response time of the main campus 

Skill: Knowledge of a University environment preferred, specifically Northwest Missouri State University campus.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Works outdoors/indoors during inclement weather including nights, weekends and holidays. This position is specifically for overnight shift. 

EQUIPMENT/MATERIALS USED: Operates office equipment, specialized law enforcement equipment, radios, police vehicles, weapons, etc. 

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Primary functions require physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include running, walking, crouching, or crawling during emergency operations. Moving equipment, climbing stairs/ladders, walking, standing or sitting for extended periods of time. mobility/strength/dexterity/balance/coordination/endurance.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

This position is identified as a Campus Security Authority (CSA). The CSA will attend required CSA training and is an official of the University who has significant responsibility for students and campus activities and the authority to take action for the University. This position is considered essential staff. Essential staff provides services that relate directly to the health, safety, and welfare of the University, ensure continuity of key operations, and maintain and protect University properties. Should the University close for any reason, essential staff will report to work as usual.
