ASSOCIATE GENERAL COUNSEL

HSS

Founded in 1863, Hospital for Special Surgery is the nation’s oldest orthopedic hospital. HSS surgeons perform more than 29,000 surgical procedures annually, including more hip surgeries and knee replacements than any other hospital in the nation. Every HSS surgeon who specializes in joint replacement performs on average 365 surgeries every year.

HSS was the first hospital in Manhattan to receive nursing’s highest honor, Magnet Recognition for Nursing Excellence from the American Nursing Credentialing Center, and the first hospital in the State of New York to earn Magnet designation three consecutive times. HSS is nationally ranked first in orthopedics and third in rheumatology by U.S.News and World Report (2017-2018) and has been among the top ranked for both orthopedics and rheumatology for over 25 consecutive years.

The HSS Research Division is internationally recognized as a leader in the investigation of musculoskeletal and autoimmune diseases. With its state-of-the-art technology, large patient volume, and special “bench to bedside” teams of doctors and scientists, HSS scientists and physicians can swiftly translate scientific breakthroughs into clinical treatments.

Every HSS physician holds an appointment on the faculty of Weill Cornell Medical College. HSS has one of the most sought-after orthopedic residency programs in the world. Today, more than 400 of its 500+ graduates hold positions in major orthopedic departments, many serving as department heads.

HSS is the Official Hospital of the New York Giants, New York Mets, New York Knicks, Brooklyn Nets, New York Liberty, and the New York Red Bulls. In 2013, HSS was named the first National Medical Center of the United States Olympic Committee’s (USOC) National Medical Network. In this capacity, HSS is an official hospital for U.S. athletes. HSS is also the Official Hospital of USA basketball and one of only three hospitals in the United States designated as a Medical Center of Excellence by FIFA.
