Cornell University’s Statler Hotel has launched a search for full-time, 9-month S03 Food Service Worker (Work Group Leader) to join our Ground Floor Restaurants (Terrace & Mac's Cafe) Team. This is a key position on our team, helping us to lead teams of professional staff and bright, talented college students who are eager to learn and be inspired to work together to deliver a WOW to our guests.

Your role as an SO03 Work Group Leader

Terrace and Mac’s are quick service restaurants on the ground floor of the Statler Hotel at Cornell University that serve the greater Cornell Community.

The primary role of our Work Group Leader is to maintain standards of the department with regards to food safety and sanitation, guest satisfaction, and quality of production. This position may be asked to fill in on any station before or during a scheduled shift to accommodate planned and unplanned absences. The team leader must be willing and able to support any position that needs help in Mac’s Café and Terrace Restaurant.

Among your duties, you will:

  • Ensure proper food safety procedures are followed, including: proper rotation of storage areas, walk in coolers and freezers, and station stocking; ensures that each team is completing daily temp logs and coaches on corrective actions when needed; engages with the Tompkins County Health Department during the semi-annual inspection
  • Provide a high level of guest service, greet guests quickly and respectfully, engage with guests as time allows, and may occasionally be called upon to address guests’ concerns and perform service recovery.
  • Review and assign daily prep projects and assist teammates with needed. Will be called upon to assist the cashier team when needed.

Required Qualifications:

  • Five years related food service experience
  • Excellent employee relation skills
  • Good customer service skills
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time
  • Must be able to lift 25 lbs regularly
  • Must maintain an up-to-date “food handlers” safety certification
  • Have a working knowledge of food preparation equipment, including: fryer, choppers, slicers, mixers, ovens, steamer and various hand tools including knives
  • Is knowledgeable of allergens and is able to serve a guest with a known allergy
  • Must be willing to work a varied
  • Must be able to work a variable work schedule that may include days, nights, weekends, Holidays, special events; subject to change on short notice.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous Cashiering Experience
  • Minimum two years’ experience at the Statler Hotel’s Ground Floor Restaurant
  • History of positive feedback from co-workers, guests, and previous managers
