The Graduate School of Education (GSE) at the University at Buffalo (UB) is seeking to hire a Postdoctoral Scholar for the UB Teacher Residency Program (UBTR). The Graduate School of Education is committed to fostering an equitable, diverse, just and inclusive environment. As an extension of this commitment, the UB Teacher Residency program offers an accelerated, innovative, one-year initial teacher certification program for individuals who are committed to transformational teaching in public schools in Buffalo and WNY.

The postdoctoral scholar duties will include but not limited to:

  • Working collaboratively with the Director, Assistant Directors, university faculty, and partner districts in conducting quantitative and mixed-methods research focused on pre-service teacher development as well as post-graduation student-level outcomes in classrooms led by program graduates. We seek to understand the impact of program pathways on pre-service teacher development, student-level outcomes (academic, attendance, disciplinary referrals, etc.) in classrooms led by early career teachers and program mentors, and school-level metrics. Additional research questions are organized around understanding the impact of teacher demographics on student-level outcomes in P12 classrooms.
  • Participate in design, data collection (or coordination with district partners to gather existing data), analysis, and publication of findings.
  • Support the preparation of grant reports.

Minimum Qualifications

The successful candidate must have a doctoral degree in education or an education-related field and experience conducting quantitative or mixed methods research.

At the time of the appointment, the postdoctoral scholar must have been awarded a doctoral degree (or completed all the requirements of such) in an appropriate field, most typically within the past five years from the appointment start date.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills, along with the ability to interact with a diverse group of faculty, administrators, and district-based administrators is essential.

Preferred Qualifications

Prior research that employs critical quantitative methodologies and prior research on teacher education programs (broadly) is preferred. Prior experience with program evaluation is also preferred. Prior experience as a Pk-12 classroom teacher is welcomed.

Physical Demands

Salary Range $62,000 - $65,000 Additional Salary Information The salary range reflects our good faith and reasonable estimate of the possible compensation at the time of posting, the role and associated responsibilities, and the experience, education, and training of the selected candidate. Work Hours

8:30 A.M. – 5:00 P.M

Monday – Friday may involve some evenings on occasion.
