Job Description

Gilead's mission is to discover, develop, and deliver therapies that will improve the lives of patients with life-threatening illnesses worldwide. As a Director US Market Access Strategy HIV, you are responsible for three main areas.

  • Access Strategists are responsible for shaping all aspects of their assigned brands' access strategy. This role is responsible for launching an access/pricing strategy in the US market. This strategic work includes the development, ongoing assessment, and execution of innovative access strategies in all segments (Commercial, Medicaid, Medicare) to meet competition and respond to changing and challenging marketplace dynamics.
  • Drive strategic alignment by creating processes that leverage insights, share best practices, and develop a culture of open and transparent communication.
  • Understand customer perspective and develop a POV on how the market access landscape is evolving within a particular TA (Therapeutic Area), e.g., HIV. Orchestrate smooth execution of strategy working with cross-functional partners. Monitor current and ongoing projects and identify future areas of opportunity to enhance the company's US Payer capabilities and create affordable patient access to our innovative products.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Partner across the organization to lead and develop the US HIV Launch Access Strategies - the ability to understand the complexity of the managed care industry and capable of guiding a cross-functional team that designs/recommends optimal access/pricing approaches.
  • Provide the "voice of the payer" to Commercial Team Leadership. Monitor the Payor access environment and key trends, identify issues, and develop/recommend innovative access solutions.
  • Ensure organizational alignment around factors affecting coverage, provider reimbursement, and patient access while tracking Payer policies and trends impacting Gilead’s TAs.
  • Integrate market access and payer perspectives into product development plans, collaborating with Global Value & Access (GV&A) and Global Commercial Product Strategy teams.
  • Collaborate closely with the strategic contracting and analytics functions to ensure strategy success while partnering with Medical Affairs and (GV&A) for product value demonstration and evidence-generation plans that support long-term access strategies across the product lifecycle.
  • Develop extensive managed markets strategic plans and Payer marketing tactics/resources for current and in-development assets aligned with Medical Affairs, Sales, and Marketing.
  • Provide input into brand planning, bridging coverage/access goals with emerging payer needs.
  • Oversee dedicated Managed Markets budget and drive cross-portfolio access initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain broad, deep, and current customer expertise through coordination with Account Teams as well as other internal and external stakeholders
  • Maintain knowledge of the product portfolio and all business segments, including the nuanced differences between different business segments, e.g., Commercial, Medicare, Medicaid, and Federal. 
  • Defining internal and external research, market segment assessments/analytics, pricing analogs, and analysis to input and drive Market access and pricing strategy for a particular TA.

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree and Twelve Years’ Experience

OR

Master's Degree and Ten Years Experience

OR

PhD and Eight Years Experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MBA or other advanced degree
  • Demonstrate a breadth of diverse leadership experiences and capabilities, including the ability to influence and collaborate with peers, oversee and guide the work of other colleagues to achieve meaningful outcomes, and create business impact.
  • Possess a deep understanding of the US healthcare environment and the payer/reimbursement space; ability to identify trends in healthcare that impact our business and to develop and drive strategies and tactics that will help ensure sustainable business success.
  • Has a proven track record of success in developing, implementing, and executing strategies that drive business performance.
  • Demonstrates strong strategic and analytical skills and business acumen.
  • Advanced strategic thinking skills and strategic story-telling skills as evidenced by the ability to identify alternative scenarios, resulting implications, and development of pragmatic recommendations.
  • Clear communication skills: the ability to navigate internal organization/processes, mobilize key stakeholders, and engage both colleagues and Senior Leadership
  • Experience managing and executing complex market access plans in a challenging pricing environment

The salary range for this position is: $221,170.00 - $286,220.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package.
