Summary: 

Tetra Tech has a position for a Civil or Environmental Engineer in our Helena, MT office. We are seeking an energetic individual interested in supporting a variety of challenging projects in a fast-paced environment.

For success, the individual must be able to work effectively in multi-disciplinary team settings, occasionally with limited direction, and under tight deadlines. It is important for the individual to be comfortable and confident in meetings with colleagues, regulatory authorities, project stakeholders, and clients. Must have high integrity, accountability, an acute attention to detail, a demonstrated interest in the field, and a desire to be self-improving.

Your Role:

The successful candidate will work closely with Principal and Project Engineers, Scientists, and Project Managers on a variety of environmental remediation, water resources, civil construction projects, and mining projects. Project work will support various offices in the intermountain west including Billings, MT; Bozeman, MT; Boise, ID; and Salt Lake City, UT. The position will include duties such as:

  • Hydrologic and hydraulic modeling and design of infrastructure and restoration designs.
  • Preparation of design and report documents including drafting in Civil3D, technical specification, bidding documents, technical memos, alternatives analyses, and design reports.
  • Environmental sampling (air, soil, soil vapor, groundwater, surface water).
  • Construction oversight and Construction QA/QC.
  • Environmental and/or geotechnical characterization.
  • Stormwater pollution prevention plan (SWPPP), stormwater design and calculations, and stormwater quality management.
  • Groundwater and soil remediation projects.
  • Remedial options evaluations.
  • Installation of remediation systems.
  • Environmental data compilation, review, and analysis.
  • Support project reporting.
  • Strong problem solving, time management, and verbal communication skills are required.
  • The position requires travel, typically related to environmental sampling, drilling, remediation system installation and civil construction oversight. 

Qualifications:

  • A B.S. in Civil or Environmental Engineering or equivalent.
  • Experience in CAD, GIS, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, and other engineering models preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills and technical writing.
  • 0-5 years of experience.
  • Understanding of environmental sampling methods for surface water, groundwater, and/or soil, and ability to designate sampling requirements (i.e. laboratory analysis required, number of samples, control samples, hold times).
  • Knowledge of hydrologic processes including geomorphology, geology, and stream restoration principles preferred.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic analyses and design approaches for river stabilization, scour mitigation, and fish passage.
  • Knowledge of topographic and bathymetric survey equipment and techniques.
  • Knowledge of soil classification.
  • Knowledge of remediation methods or strong interest in learning.
  • Willing to learn about local, state, and federal programs, permits, and regulations related to environmental remediation, solid waste, and stormwater.
  • Ability to perform field data collection and construction oversight.
  • Strong skills and proficiency with computer systems and Microsoft-based software, including MS Excel, for data analysis.
  • OSHA HAZWOPER certification preferred.
  • A Pre-employment drug screening in compliance with state regulations is required.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record without restrictions.

Target salary range: $55,000.00 to $65,000.00. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
