The Blackstone Tax team comprises of 91 tax professionals across New York, London, Hong Kong and Mumbai. We provide tax support for all aspects of Blackstone’s global business, organized around the key areas of Tax Planning, House Tax Compliance & Reporting, Fund Tax Compliance & Reporting and Tax Transformation.

Job Responsibilities:

The Asia Tax hire will be responsible for the day-to-day management and oversight of the tax planning, compliance and reporting requirements of Blackstone’s APAC management companies and private equity investment platforms.

This role will be expected to collaborate across functions and geographic lines to achieve operational goals, strategic initiatives and business growth strategies for Blackstone and Tax in the region.

The candidate will report to Peter Bradley, SVP in Tax based in Hong Kong.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Provide local tax planning and strategy support to the Blackstone International Tax Group, including development and implementation of global and regional initiatives to support Blackstone’s tax strategy
  • Support tax structuring for regional private equity investments, including working with local Blackstone Finance and deal teams, tax advisors and legal counsel
  • Ongoing structuring and maintenance of Singapore investment platforms for regional private equity investments, including “13O/13U” incentive reporting and compliance
  • Implementation and on‐going monitoring of Blackstone Asia regional transfer pricing policies
  • On‐going monitoring of the Group’s policies for managing permanent establishment risks
  • Keep up to date on latest tax developments relevant to Blackstone and understanding the impact to our business in the region (e.g. OECD Pillar II)
  • Partnering with Blackstone Finance and external advisors on tax compliance and reporting requirements. This will include, overseeing the preparation and review of corporate and indirect tax returns across APAC. Key jurisdictions include Singapore, India, Hong Kong, China, Australia, Japan and Korea
  • Managing the quarter end tax provisioning and forecasting, working with multiple stakeholders to ensure accurate and timely reporting
  • Ensuring a robust control environment for all tax processes, to ensure compliance with all relevant local tax obligations
  • Being a key Tax contact for relevant communication with local tax authorities and responsible for implementing systems & controls to meet relevant tax requirements
  • Provide support for regional tax audits as and when they arise

Qualifications, Experience and Skills:

  • Degree qualified, Chartered Accountant with at least 8+ years’ experience in public accounting tax practice
  • Experience in asset management or investment fund structuring (such as Singapore “FSI-FM” regulations and “13O/13U” conditions etc)
  • Experience in cross border structuring / international tax
  • Tax compliance experience (review or preparation)
  • Awareness of regional corporate tax regulations. Singapore tax experience required
  • Strong working knowledge of tax accounting and VAT principles required
  • Demonstrated reputation for excellence and achievement
  • Highly organized, with a proven record of timely delivery
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Proactive and not afraid to take a hands‐on approach to complex matters
  • A team player who can produce deliverables of a high quality
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Ability to work independently and to take on additional responsibilities
