What You Will Do:

Gannett Fleming’s Water, Energy and Environment Team is seeking a highly motivated entry to mid-level Environmental Scientist, Geologist, or Engineer for a diverse role supporting a variety of environmental assessment, compliance and remediation projects across MD, DC, VA, NJ, PA (MidAtlantic region).

The position includes supporting duties and responsibility for the implementation of a variety of project tasks. Services include work for public, government and private clients with a focus area on infrastructure advancement, environmental assessment and environmental compliance services. Specific projects could include a mix of environmental compliance, site assessment, environmental monitoring, subsurface assessment, and remediation, Phase I and II environmental site assessments (ESAs) and investigations, soil and groundwater characterization/remediation, and a wide range of environmental compliance and regulatory requirement oversight. Extensive fieldwork and office technical work will be completed.

Duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Assist Project Manager with developing and managing project reports, records, contracts, bid specifications, charts, tables, etc.
  • Assist Project Manager with developing project scope and costs for Phase I ESAs, Phase II site assessments, subsurface investigations (groundwater, surface water, soil, and air), and other environmental compliance activities.
  • Implement field work and execute day to day activities of projects such as groundwater sampling, subsurface drilling, site inspections, subcontractor oversight and other field activities. Assume 50% field work and 50% office tasks.
  • Plan, prioritize, and organize diverse workload.
  • Interpret analytical data for assessment, remediation and construction projects to develop appropriate and applicable written conclusions and recommendations.
  • Attend designated meetings and deal with a diverse group of clients and teaming partners.

Education | Experience:

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Geology, or related engineering field (Master’s a plus)
  • 1 to 5 years+ of experience in consulting engineering firms and general knowledge of applicable laws and regulations throughout MD, DC, VA, NJ, PA (MidAtlantic).
  • Will consider entry-level candidates with prior internship experience in a related field
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Self-starter, able to complete tasks with minimal supervision and direction
  • Willingness to work in a variety of settings and environmental conditions (heat, cold, rain, etc.)
  • Willingness to travel for project work
  • Experience demonstrating a high level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others and achieve results
  • Demonstrate agility working with multi-disciplined infrastructure projects
  • Demonstrate professional judgment, consistency, strong attention to detail, and background of high- quality work products
  • Experience preparing reports that demonstrate technical knowledge
  • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER Certified a plus
  • Proficient in MS Office and familiar with Microsoft Project, and EQuis EDD. Auto CAD and Arc GIS (a plus)
  • General Knowledge in applicable federal, state (MD, DC, VA, NJ, PA (MidAtlantic), and local environmental regulations
