Deputy Probation Officer (DPO) volunteer positions are available in the 1st Judicial District. Our volunteer program is primarily located at 11011 W. 6th Ave. in Lakewood, CO, and some opportunities may also be available at 100 Jefferson County Pkwy Golden, CO 80401 based on need of the department. Applications for this non-paid position are being accepted ongoing. A minimum commitment of eight hours per week, for 6 months is preferred. Applicants interested in completing specific school-related internship programs are encouraged to apply. The DPO program will provide training and supervision appropriate for duties assigned, which may depend on a person’s availability and capacity. DPO specific duties may include but are not limited to: learning work flow and case management practices for probation supervision, meet with adult and/or juvenile clients, assist probation officers with a wide range of case related administrative duties, preparing court documents, and managing a small caseload. All Deputy Probation Officer’s must pass a Criminal History Background.

As a new Deputy Probation officer you will start as a DPO 1 and have opportunities to move to a DPO 2 and DPO 3 based on your length of service, ability to complete training, and utilize core skills of an active probation officer. You will be assigned a mentor to guide you through the program and additional training and networking opportunities will be provided.

Physical Demands:
While preforming the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands and fingers and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Individuals assigned field supervision responsibilities will be required to successfully complete the Defensive Tactics course as per state policy and be able to engage in defensive skills maneuvers. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus. Some positions may be required to travel.
Work Environment:
The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet. The position is subject to varying and unpredictable situation; may handle emergency or crisis situations is subject to many interruptions; may handle multiple calls and inquiries simultaneously; and may occasionally handle absentee replacement on short notice.
