High school diploma, keyboard skills essential. At the entry level, NO licenses or certifications are required; however, LINK/NCIC and Telecommunications certification are required within 6 months of employment. Successful completion of suitability screening, drug screening, polygraph tests and a comprehensive background check investigation are required. Additional experience may be used on a one-to-one basis to offset the educational requirements. The university offers market competitive salary and benefits. Position Description:

Public Safety Dispatcher are responsible for answering calls for police, fire, emergency medical services (EMS), maintenance and escort services; monitoring fire, intrusion, emergency and maintenance alarms; and dispatching and coordinating police, fire, EMS and security officer units in both emergency and non-emergency situations.

Position operates radio and associated recording equipment to receive and transmit law enforcement and public safety information and prepare reports. This entails various communications equipment in a highly technical environment, including multi- channel two-way radio system, the Law Enforcement Network of Kentucky/National Crime Information Center Computer terminal, emergency telephone system, multi-line telephone system and TDD unit.

This position is responsible for maintaining files concerning building openings and closings and coordinating such efforts with building personnel and the Office of Planning, Design & Construction. In accordance with established procedures and policies, exercise independent judgment when handling routine or emergency calls: refer actions requiring deviation from departmental policy to appropriate command level. Must be skilled in the use of computers and office equipment. Must have the ability to type accurately, the ability to react calmly, quickly, and decisively in emergency situations, the ability to obtain, summarize, relay information, and communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Compensation will be commensurate to candidate experience.
