The Temporary Assistant Registrar, Loans and Exhibitions will be reporting to the Registrar, Loans and Exhibitions. This position will assist with aspects of loans and exhibitions registration, coordination, installation, shipping, and documentation. The ideal candidate must be an active listener, take direction well, and communicate effectively.

This is a temporary, part-time position.

You will:

  • Assist with logistics for loans and traveling exhibitions, including but not limited to handling, shipping, preparation, and condition reporting.
  • Ensure proper documentation and record-keeping are in place, following AAM standards, for loans and exhibitions including but not limited to inbound and outbound paperwork, receipts, and condition reports.
  • Assist with maintaining workflow and schedule in collaboration with other departments to ensure loans and exhibitions are delivered, installed, or returned as planned. Identify and anticipate potential issues and communicate information with Registrars.
  • Assist with art handling and exhibition preparation of loan objects including installation, de-installation, transport, unpacking, and packing of crates and other movement.
  • Supervise filming and photography of objects or galleries as needed.
  • Assist with maintaining record-keeping systems and procedures set forth by Registration and Collection Management.
  • Assist with the organization of loans and exhibitions physical files and assist with loans and exhibitions updates and data entry in a collection management database.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

You Have

  • A bachelor’s degree in art history, museum studies or a related subject is required. Equivalent experience will be considered.
  • A valid driver’s license.
  • 1-2 years of museum registration experience.
  • Knowledge of and experience with standard museum registration and collections management policies and procedures is essential.
  • Strong computer skills including experience and proficiency with relational collection management databases, word processing, and spreadsheets.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge and experience with best handling practices and preventative care for museum objects.
  • Familiarity with storing, moving, and packing artworks to museum standards.
  • A commitment to diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to sit, walk, stand, climb stairs and ladders, and lift or push objects up to 30 pounds.

Salary:

The expected hourly range for this role is $29.81- 31.25. The actual base pay offered will be determined by factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and other factors permitted by law.
