An opportunity exists for highly motivated, personable, and organized Environmental Scientist and Regulatory Environmental Consultant looking to advance their career as part of our growing Team of Environmental Permitting and Assessment Professionals in New Hampshire. The successful candidate will have regulatory and field experience in New Hampshire to support the growing needs of our clients in all regions of the state and collaborate with our multi-disciplinary staff on a variety of projects. In addition to regularly interacting with clients and regulators and executing regulatory permitting and compliance tasks, daily work will also include developing proposals, mentoring staff, and driving our quality and health and safety program.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical guidance on projects to develop collaborative solutions to environmental challenges for energy and transmission projects.
  • Lead our teams that collect and report on tasks, including wetland delineations, threatened and endangered species surveys, habitat characterizations, land use mapping and vegetation cover classification, and other natural resource focused surveys.
  • Prepare, coordinate, and review permit applications for the US Army Corps of Engineers (ACOE) and New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services (NHDES) and consult with the NH Fish and Game Department (NHFG), NH Natural Heritage Bureau, US Fish and Wildlife Service, NH Department of Transportation, NH Division of Historical Resources, and other applicable agencies associated with reviewing large scale development or infrastructure improvement activities.
  • Develop proposal strategies and lead/collaborate with a broader proposal team.
  • Lead and assist with the delivery of high-quality service on client projects, ultimately striving to obtain necessary permits.
  • Effectively communicate data collection methods and results to varied audiences that include clients, regulators, and the public.
  • Mentor and support the professional development of staff.
  • Conduct field work to collect technical data or for agency/client site visits or field inspections.
  • Foster a positive and effective relationship with clients and their contractors that directly correlates to the successful execution of projects and leads to more work. Develop and routinely update project schedules. Maintaining an open line of communication with clients and giving regular project status updates is a priority.
  • Occasionally lead project informational sessions and/or present permit applications in front of municipal audiences or other regulatory agencies.
  • Use permitting and natural resource knowledge and experience to advise contractors and clients on site visits and project meetings.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Demonstrated ability to successfully lead diverse project teams and execute technical tasks on large complex projects, particularly energy and transmission projects or other large linear projects that can take several years from initial planning to completed construction.
  • Experience with local, state, and federal environmental permitting in New Hampshire, including experience with NHDES wetland and water quality rules, ACOE NH General Permit, 2022 EPA Construction General Permit, NHFG Environmental Review procedures, and typical municipal permitting
  • Experience coordinating avoidance and minimization of impacts to rare plants, animals, and habitats with applicable agencies.
  • Experience in preparing permitting applications and projects from start to finish with the ability to adapt to changes in proposed plans or unexpected site conditions.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and support and foster growth of a team.
  • Ability to review project work, quantities, costs, accuracy of specifications, completeness, and constructability.
  • Ability to meet project deadlines.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; including advanced technical writing abilities.
  • Ability to present projects and permit applications at local municipal meetings, as well as other state and federal permitting related meetings and construction kickoff meetings.
  • Ability to prioritize, organize, and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously.
  • Ability to perform work accurately in a detail-oriented environment.
  • Ability to prepare clear and concise reports, procedures, correspondence, and other written materials.
  • Ability to work well independently and with multi-disciplinary teams in a fast-paced environment.
  • Past experience conducting field work and compliance monitoring services.

Education and Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Geology, or a related field. Graduate degree is preferred.
  • NH Certification as Professional Wetland Scientist is preferred.
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience required.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather. Ability to lift and move items and equipment up to 50 lbs.
