Get to know Fulfillment

The Fulfillment tech family is one of the pillars enabling Grab to out-serve our customers and partners in different businesses and marketplaces across Southeast Asia. We are working on high throughput, real-time distributed systems that use sophisticated machine learning techniques to solve hundreds of millions of requests per day. We are a distributed team in 4 different locations: Singapore, Beijing, Indonesia, and Malaysia. Our communication is in English, both in spoken and written form.

Our mission is to offer the best-in-class products and experiences to our driver partners as to increase adoption and engagement of our services. Improve driver partner opportunities and efficiency in order to fulfill customer orders without fail, rain or shine. And to create efficient marketplaces by determining an optimal price that is both sustainable and loved by our partners and customers.

Get to know the Team

The Fulfilment team in Grab is responsible for empowering our business verticals (GrabFood, GrabExpress, Transport, GrabMart) with the technology that makes it possible for them to provide real-time fulfilment offerings. It is our responsibility to build and maintain the real-time systems and models so that our services balance both the needs of our customers but also ensure our driver-partner earnings.

Get to know the Role

We are looking for a senior engineering manager to join the Fulfilment team to build products that empower our business verticals with the technology that makes it possible for them to provide real-time Fulfilment service offerings and understand the market responses to it in real-time. We believe a successful candidate has broad experience in engineering and people management, but if you believe you have what it takes then we’d love to hear from you either way. This role is required because we want to build and maintain real-time systems, and models to serve our customers and partners. In return, you will get an opportunity to create an impact in Southeast Asia.

The Day-to-Day Activities

  • Lead a team of engineers across different technical functions (backend, mobile, web, quality) to deliver highly scalable and available services and intuitive experiences for out users
  • Partner with cross-functional leaders to build the product roadmap and set customer focused metrics and robust experiment designs
  • Drive company-wide engineering initiatives by collaborating effectively with senior leaders across the company by employing your mastery of technologies, communicating your ideas effectively and driving alignment with key stakeholders to create successful outcomes.
  • Set the engineering strategy and engineering excellence metrics and targets for the team, and consistently raise the bar across testability, availability, security and code quality for your systems and modules
  • Working in a regional organization with offices across different countries and cultures and facilitating collaboration across these different teams.
  • Within your engineering teams, drive the following:
  • Timely delivery of highly reliable and scalable engineering architecture, and high quality, maintainable and operationally excellent code.
  • Track & monitor team & individual performance, building continuous improvement into the process.
  • Participate in design discussions and code reviews. Helping to identify and resolve performance and scalability issues
  • Recruit, interview and close top talents.
  • Actively mentor and coach engineers in the team while ensuring continuous growth and development opportunities exist for them in the team.

Qualifications

The Must-Haves

  • Min. Bachelor Degree Computer Science, Information Technology, System Information, Mathematics or Statistics, or any other suitable technology
  • 8+ years of relevant, broad engineering experience, including 3+ years of people management experience.
  • Strong computer science fundamentals including data structures, algorithms and multithreading, relational and non-relational databases
  • Hands-on experience with web frontend and backend application development.
  • Demonstrates a solid understanding of cloud infrastructure with hands-on experience being a plus. 
  • Communicates competently in English
  • Proven team manager with a servant leader mindset, strong interpersonal skills, and ability to get things done collaboratively.
  • Ability to clearly communicate high-level strategy and technical details effectively across disciplines, locations, and organizations, including to senior managers.
  • Experienced in how to manage, support and grow a team of talented software engineers.

The Nice-to-Haves

  • Hands-on experience with Go programming language
  • Hands-on experience with AWS/Azure
  • Hands-on experience with React/Redux
  • Hands-on experience with Kotlin/Swift
