We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated Lead Software Engineer to join our development team and lead the design and implementation of integrations between enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems and eCommerce platforms for our cutting-edge tax compliance solutions.

Responsibilities

Avalara is the worldwide leader in sales and use tax calculation. We are the first to admit it - sales tax calculation is not great. But revolutionizing fundamental business processes -- that's big time. And that is what we are doing every day, bringing technology to bear on arcane, tedious tasks that every business in the world must deal with.

We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated Lead Software Engineer to join our development team and lead the design and implementation of integrations between enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems and eCommerce platforms for our cutting-edge tax compliance solutions.

  • Performance Objectives

Here are some of the things we expect you to do when you join us:

  • Integrations and Connectors: Dig into our cloud native Avalara product suite. We are looking to build and expand our market penetration through an extensive suite of integrations and connectors through a flexible, extensible platform capable of handling any source platforms. At the same time, we want to expose all the tax nuances through our integrations. Show us how to create that while maximizing performance, scalability and reliability and making it “oh-so-simple” to operate.
  • Industry Leadership: Avalara is the market leader, and we intend on staying that way. That means we cannot be complacent. We actively encourage everyone to make bold moves and keep testing their limits. We expect you to innovate and produce innovative ideas to make things better.
  • Team Leader: Drive the team to deliver more than they ever thought they could by providing expert knowledge, mentoring, and leadership. We want someone who not only understands how the system currently works, but also envisions how it should work. Share that vision with the team and empower them to make it a reality.
  • Lead the end-to-end design, development, testing, and deployment of integrations, preferred in Intuit platform products.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product managers, UX designers, and fellow engineers to define integration requirements and ensure alignment with the overall product roadmap.
  • Develop custom APIs, connectors, and middleware to facilitate data exchange, synchronization, and real-time communication between different systems.
  • Implement robust error handling, data validation, and data transformation mechanisms to ensure data integrity and accuracy during integration processes.
  • Optimize integration performance and scalability to accommodate a growing number of clients and increasing data volumes.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends and emerging technologies related to ERP and eCommerce systems, and proactively recommend enhancements to the integration process.
  • Design and implement new features and maintain existing functionalities.
  • Provide technical leadership and evangelize implementing best practices and guidelines.
  • Build POCs to demonstrate the technical solution feasibility.
  • Focus on security aspects, observability, scalability, and telemetry.
  • Perform code reviews and ensure coding standards and practices are followed.
  • Implement and follow agile/scrum processes.
  • Collaborate with other teams to solve cross functional challenges.
  • Optimize code to improve application efficiency.
  • Ensure team is not creating technical debts.
  • Take necessary corrective measures to address problems in application.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth within the team.

About Avalara

About Avalara:

We’re building cloud-based tax compliance solutions to handle every transaction in the world. Imagine every transaction you make — every tank of gas, cup of coffee, or pair of sneakers, every movie ticket, meal kit, or streamed song, every sensor-to-sensor ping. Nearly every time you make a purchase, physical or digital, there’s an accompanying unique and nuanced tax compliance calculation. The logic behind calculating taxes — the rules, rates, and boundaries is a global, layered, three-dimensional mess of complexity, with compliance dictated by governments and applied by every business, every day.

Avalara works with businesses of all sizes, all over the world — from corner stores to gigantic global retailers — to calculate tax accurately and automatically, at speeds measured in milliseconds. That’s a massive technical challenge, in terms of scale, reliability, and complexity, and we do it better than anyone. That’s why we’re growing fast. Headquartered in Seattle, Avalara has offices across the U.S. and around the world, in Brazil, Canada, India, U.K, Belgium and across Europe.

Equal Opportunities:

Avalara is an Equal Opportunity Employer. All qualified candidates will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, colour, creed, religion, age, gender, national orientation, disability, sexual orientation, US Veteran status, or any other factor protected by law.
