Nasdaq is looking for an experienced labor & employment lawyer, to join its global legal team.

The ideal candidate will have worked as a labor and employment law associate at a major law firm in India and may have also spent several years in-house. This position will be based in our office in Mumbai.

You will be a member of our global legal team. Our legal team members are currently based primarily in the United States and Europe, but we are seeking to expand the legal team’s footprint in India, where we already have a major business presence.

Your role and responsibilities:

  • Partner with the Global People Team in counseling our business units on labor and benefits matters in India and, possibly, across the Asia-Pacific region.
  • Provide advice and help develop strategy on company-wide initiatives affecting employees in India and the Asia-Pacific.
  • Lead employment law-related projects, including process reviews, new policy creation and implementation, and creation and delivery of training programs.
  • Monitor legislation, regulations and case law relating to employment issues and provide proactive, strategic advice to the People Team and relevant business partners.
  • Provide legal advice with regard to employment disputes.

We expect you to have:

  • Approximately 10 years of legal experience, preferably a mix of law firm and in-house labor and benefits law practice.
  • Experience in responding to notices related to labor and compliance regulations in the APAC region
  • Extensive experience advising large North American or European companies on all aspects of Indian federal, state and local law as it may be relevant to employment and benefits in India; familiarity with relevant US and European law, including privacy/GDPR, anti-corruption, anti-discrimination, export control and sanctions, immigration, financial reporting and controls.
  • Familiarity with labor and benefits laws in other countries in Asia-Pacific and experience working with local law firms
  • High degree of independence, initiative, decisiveness, and creative thinking, as well as a desire to be challenged.
  • Experience in conflict resolution at the pre- and post-litigation stages of dispute resolution
  • Excellent organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple projects at once, follow through and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and aggressively drive key initiatives at a distance from direct supervisor
  • Demonstrated experience in writing successfully for a diverse range of audiences
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to be a partner to business stakeholders
  • Based in Mumbai.
  • Ability to engage in occasional travel to other Nasdaq locations in India and globally
  • Education Qualification: An LL.B., preferably from one of the National Law Universities in India, and qualification as a registered lawyer in India
