Non-sworn uniformed seasonal security staff provide for the safety and security of the Cal Expo Fairgrounds property. This is accomplished through physical security screening, mobile (vehicle) security patrols, and assigned (fixed) security posts. Using walk-through metal detectors and hand-held metal detectors, incumbent will security screen check guests entering the Cal Expo property; conduct a visual and physical search of guests' personal belongings for weapons and prohibited items, i.e., handbags, backpacks and verbally direct guests to empty their pockets. Notify a police officer of non-compliance or discovery of weapon or other prohibited items. Incumbent will patrol State Fair property, ensuring access gates and property buildings are locked and secured at night and will be responsible for unlocking and opening gates and doors in the morning. Notify a police officer or appropriate staff of suspicious activity or of the need for law enforcement by means of a hand-held police radio. Incumbent will provide fixed or interval inspections of Cal Expo grounds and buildings, making sure all doors and windows are properly shut and locked, and all lights are turned off; inspect electrical devices and plumbing, heating and other equipment for proper adjustment; prevent admittance to the premises of unauthorized persons; investigate unusual conditions and report as necessary. Incumbent may be required to climb stairs to inspect security conditions on rooftops and/or raise/lower flags on rooftops.
