The Director of VR System Engineering is a pivotal leadership role tasked with guiding a multidisciplinary team of system engineers, encompassing power, SoC, sensors, and more. This role is central to developing engineering requirements and crafting a robust validation process for VR technologies. Reporting directly to the Head of VR Hardware Engineering, this role will work closely with leaders across various functions including product architecture, hardware design, software, XR technology, product management, and operations to solve the VR industries most challenging problems. Candidates must have a proven track record of successfully shipping products, exhibit technical knowledge across multiple domains, and possess exceptional communication and leadership skills.

Director, VR System Engineering Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor a diverse team of system engineers in the development, engineering, and validation of next-generation VR systems, ensuring alignment with the company's strategic goals.
  • Collaborate with product management and cross-functional leaders to define comprehensive engineering requirements and system architecture, translating complex user needs into actionable engineering objectives.
  • Establish and maintain strategic partnerships across the organization and with external stakeholders to foster innovation and ensure the seamless integration of subsystems within the broader VR ecosystem.
  • Champion the engineering validation strategy, ensuring rigorous testing methodologies are applied to meet technical, operational, and regulatory standards.
  • Drive continuous improvement in system engineering processes, embracing emerging technologies and methodologies to maintain competitiveness and meet evolving market demands.

Minimum Qualifications

  • At least 10 years of experience in system engineering or a related field, with a proven track record of leading teams to successfully deliver complex hardware products to market.
  • Technical expertise across several domains such as power systems, SoC architecture, sensors, and systems engineering, with a clear understanding of their impact on VR product development.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience of guiding cross-functional teams through the entire product lifecycle, from concept through to mass production.
  • Proven communication skills, adept at conveying complex technical concepts and aligning diverse teams around common goals.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, with a preference for advanced degrees or additional certifications.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Over 15 years of direct, relevant experience in system engineering, with a strong preference for backgrounds in VR/AR systems development.
  • Previous experience in Implementing System Engineering process and best practices
  • Familiarity with the latest trends and technologies in VR/AR, and a demonstrated ability to apply this knowledge in a product development context.
  • Experience with multiple full life-cycle product launches, ideally within the VR/AR or related high-tech industries.

$253,000/year to $319,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits

Individual pay is determined by skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Compensation details listed in this posting reflect the base salary only, and do not include bonus, equity or sales incentives, if applicable. In addition to base salary, Meta offers benefits.
