The Office of Admissions at South Dakota State University (SDSU) is seeking a dynamic, visionary, and collaborative leader with strong entrepreneurial, strategic, and analytic skills to lead a student-centered and data driven campus-wide undergraduate recruitment effort. This position is located in Brookings, South Dakota and is a 12-month, full-time, benefits-eligible position. 

The Admissions Office at SDSU serves as the primary gateway for prospective students facilitating a smooth and transparent exploration, application, and enrollment process focused on high quality experiences and exceptional service. The department engages in active recruitment and outreach efforts while collaborating closely with academic departments, financial aid, and other administrative units to ensure a seamless experience for prospective and admitted students.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Director reports to the Assistant Vice President for Enrollment Management and collaborates with a variety of internal and external constituencies to create and implement differentiated and highly personalized recruitment plans taking full advantage of available technologies and resourceful personnel to maximize enrollment. This position is responsible to develop, implement and lead strategies to recruit, admit, and enroll undergraduate students at the university, to provide leadership, supervision, and strategic direction for the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, and build and maintain collaborative relationships within and outside the university to enhance recruitment and enrollment efforts.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution;
  • Minimum of five (5) years of successful experience and progressive responsibility in college admissions, public relations, recruitment settings, or other relevant fields; 
  • Minimum of five (5) years of successful experience managing people and leading collaborative teams;
  • Superior written, oral and interpersonal communication skills;
  • Valid driver’s license, or ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire, and willingness to travel.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience integrating relevant technology and best practices into recruitment or business processes;
  • Effective use of data when making decisions and assessing effectiveness of programs and/or services;
  • Demonstrated success building collaborative working relationships with internal and external groups;
  • Understanding of the higher education recruitment market in South Dakota and the region;
  • Ability to organize and prioritize projects and initiatives in order to maximize resources and create efficiencies;
  • Strategic planning, communications planning, and/or marketing experience;
  • Working knowledge of effective budget management, supervisory skills and program development and management;
  • Strong commitment to staff development and customer service.
