Job Overview

This position has the responsibility to create, review, amend, and maintain attainable and effective production schedules for assigned products and product families. The production planner is expected to utilize system tools inclusive of material requirements planning and capacity planning to ensure that the supply chain is effective in meeting the needs of our customers while maintaining required delivery and inventory goals. This position is also responsible to support the facility safety, quality, and cost objectives. The production planner has a significant impact on customer service and shop floor activity and therefore must be a creative thinker with sound decision-making ability that acts with the customer in mind.

Scope

The Production Scheduler / Planner has responsibility for the execution and communication of the production plan to both the internal and external customers of Komatsu. This includes the demand planning of finish goods inventory and raw materials associated with their assigned product family. Each Production Scheduler / Planner is expected to manage machines assembled at the Chattanooga facility, as well as machines/attachments manufactured at Komatsu sister facilities.

The Production Scheduler / Planner is responsible for ~ 240 million dollars of finish machine inventory annually with the expectation of fulfilling all customer orders within 8 - 12 days of order receipt depending on the order reason type. The Production Scheduler / Planner will be responsible for managing the overall health of the raw material inventory to maintain a high level of service and minimizing slow moving or obsolete inventory.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Review and Maintain SAP data integrity inclusive of production routings and bill of material accuracy
  • Manage and maintain inventory levels ensuring consistent supply of parts to match the market demand for finish machine configurations and attachments.
  • Track progression of production orders and investigate factors that affect timely delivery of customer orders.
  • Effectively communicate changes to the production schedule to all stakeholders, including management, customers both internal and external.
  • Initiate and participate in continuous improvement projects related to production planning, customer service, and inventory management in accordance with the Komatsu Way of problem solving. This would include Kaizen events, cross-functional committees, and multi-discipline initiatives.
  • Preform other related functions as required to achieve departmental and company goals.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • BS degree in Business or Engineering or related field and 1-3 years manufacturing experience 
  • Working knowledge of SAP (or other ERP system) which must include the following areas: MRP process, Material Master, Production Planning, BOM, Purchasing and Warehouse / Inventory Management.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and ability in Microsoft Suite
  • APICS CPIM certification (Preferred)
  • Independent problem-solving skills/resourcefulness are required
  • Strong communications skills; both written and oral.
  • Accuracy and timeliness are critical.
  • Travel as required <5%
