Sewage Treatment Plant Op II - Bridgewater - (240003CL)

Description

Duties: Shift: 6:00 am – 2:00 pm with one weekend day

Operates sewage treatment plant equipment at the direction of the chief operator to ensure proper treatment of the wastewater; Makes minor repairs to and performs routine maintenance on sewage treatment equipment including pumps, drives, motors, tractors, lawn care equipment and buildings; Collects samples, uses laboratory equipment to test wastewater and final effluent, records chlorine residual level, pH level and other data and adjusts chemical addition and system parameters on the basis of data obtained from test results; Monitors control panels, adjusts valves and gates to regulate the flow of sewage and runs wasting equipment to maintain process; Records data regarding sewage plant operations based on observation and inspection; Performs related duties such as maintaining records and preparing reports; Assists in maintaining the walks and grounds of the plant on a year round basis, including screening removal, sludge removal, mowing, raking, and shoveling of snow, etc. Assists in the maintenance of the building interiors and exteriors; Must be able and willing to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and be able to lift 50 lbs.; Performs other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications:

Applicants must possess a current and valid license issued by the Massachusetts Board of Certification of Operators of Wastewater Treatment Facilities with a minimum grade of IV-M.

Comments:

This is a Civil Service position. Please note that salaries for union positions are determined according to the provisions of the respective collective bargaining agreement. The Massachusetts Department of Correction shall not hire anyone who may have direct contact with offenders, who has engaged in sexual abuse in a prison or other institution as defined in 42 U.S.C. 1997; or has been convicted of engaging or attempting to engage in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable to consent or refuse, or has been civilly or administratively adjudicated to have engaged in the activity described in the above paragraph. The agency shall consider any incidents of sexual harassment in determining whether to hire anyone who may have contact with offenders or residents.

Qualifications

First consideration will be given to those applicants that apply within the first 14 days.

Minimum Entrance Requirements:

Applicants must have at least (A) two years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in the operation, maintenance and /or repair or mechanical, electrical and related equipment in a water or sewage treatment plant, stationary power plant or pumping station, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below. 

Substitutions: 

I. A certificate of completion of a program in waste water treatment from a recognized school above the high school level may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required experience.* 

  • Education toward a certificate will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed. 

Special Requirements: Based on assignment, applicants may be required to possess a current and valid certificate or an appropriate grade issued by the Massachusetts Board of Certification of Operators of Wastewater Treatment Facilities.
