Job Description:

As our Prepress Quality Assurance Technician, you will be responsible for inspecting and verifying packaging art for production and printability compliance. You will be responsible for working with packaging engineers to assure art dielines comply with engineering drawings and meet production facility requirements. Additionally, you will be evaluating print and prepress artwork to ensure accurate, repeatable, consistent, high-quality print production for Schreiber customers. You will serve as a print subject matter expert and resource to key project stakeholders (Sales, artists, Graphic Project Coordinators, prepress and print suppliers, Packaging Development engineers, and Supply Chain partners) to help ensure clear communication and expectations in order to meet project requirements. You will develop a working knowledge of parameters affecting functionality of packaging on Schreiber production machinery. You will develop and communicate continuous improvement initiatives for artists, pre-press and print vendors. You'll positively represent the Packaging Development team throughout the company.

This position can work on a Hybrid schedule from at our Home Office in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The hybrid work schedule is 3-4 days at Home Office and the remainder from home.

What you’ll do:

  • Check all artwork to ensure designs are printable and on the correct dieline.
  • Includes verifying all elements are present and consistent with brand strategies.
  • Ensure art is compliant with print supplier’s capabilities and customer profiles.
  • Verify that final prepress proofs are consistent with the art approved. (Proper sizing, graphics accuracy, color count, consistency with entire brand program (number of colors, common plates, consistent color separations…)
  • Regularly review actual printed samples to monitor consistency and quality.
  • Offer constructive feedback to print suppliers as needed.
  • Manage and maintain existing dieline catalog and create new dielines for production as necessary.
  • Manage and maintain printer spec database by regularly revisiting printer specs to assure they are current and gain visibility to new capabilities offered.
  • Attend press-side checks when needed to assure designs are printed properly.
  • Act as representative for both Schreiber and its customers.
  • Utilize internal resources and time management skills to manage projects and work independently to meet or exceed customer deadlines (which are often tight)
  • Follow internal SOPs regarding file archival, branding strategies, and other workflow processes.
  • Participate in and contribute to organizational, department and team meetings.
  • Focus on company growth by setting strong business goals, assuring alignment with leadership and corporate strategies, and identifying and suggesting ways to improve current processes and systems.
  • Focus on individual growth by meeting regularly with leaders, developing a network within the organization and the industry, attending training opportunities, and creating Individual Development Plans.
  • Together with the leadership team, ensures compliance with Food Safety and Food Quality Plans, in addition to customer requirements. Interprets and communicates customer requirements to plant production and/or support groups. Establishes and Audits PCPs, CCPs and Standard Operating Procedures to define and monitor processes, to ensure customer requirements are met. Reviews incidents during which the procedures are not met, and determines appropriate corrective action for partners failing to follow standard procedures.

What you need to succeed:

  • Associates in Graphic arts/design or related field
  • 1-3 years of experience in Graphic Arts/Design, Prepress Technician, printing experience
  • Must be fully competent in the Adobe Creative Suite with focus on Illustrator and Acrobat.
  • Is proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word and Excel).
  • Must be able to learn project management system software used throughout the department.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of attention to detail and accuracy through a number of repetitive tasks. 
  • Has an in-depth knowledge of a variety of printing processes and prepress/separating for those processes.
  • Ability to visualize flat-to-3d. Is comfortable analyzing artwork, including photography, for quality as it pertains to different print methods.
  • Can provide clear feedback to artists regarding their artworks’ success for best printability.
  • Has the ability to identify and understand a wide variety of color tones. 
  • Has a demonstrated ability to explain the complex world of prepress and printing so that key stakeholders can understand and make informed decisions if necessary.
  • Must be detail-oriented and have the ability to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be self-directed and possess the ability to complete tasks with limited direction. Must be able to work independently and on teams.
  • Strong communication skills and exceptional customer service skills a must.
  • Ability to work hard with a positive attitude and high-energy in a fun team environment required.
