PROS

Reporting to the IT Manager, the Linux Systems Engineer II works to administer, support, troubleshoot, and problem solve complex infrastructure systems. You will collaborate with management, architects, and engineers to drive successful outcomes with focus on automation, security, quality, and best practices.

A Day in the Life of the Linux Systems Engineer II: About the role:

• Management of Linux server environment including server builds, configuration, hardening, patching, upgrades, and ongoing maintenance including backup and recovery, and business continuity / DR.
• Work closely with the application development and database management teams to resolve application/database service delivery issues
• Use automation, orchestration, and scripting tools to manage existing and future systems
• Monitor the operation of applications and compute resources
• Evaluate, recommend, and implement strategies for scalability, DR, HA
• Work independently with little supervision on day to day tasks, receiving general instructions on new assignments
• Commitment to quality customer service
• Participate in on-call rotations as an escalation point

Required Qualifications - About you:

We are looking for candidates who possess the rare combination of the following achievements, skills and behaviors:

Level of qualification/education/experience:

• 3+ years work experience as Linux System Administrator or similar role;
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related;

• Innovative, fast learner and willing to share knowledge;
• Self-starter, able to work under no direct supervision;

Technical skills and knowledge:

• Solid experience with Linux system administration;
• Good knowledge of Red Hat based systems (RHEL, CentOS, Oracle Linux);
• Good level of Bash scripting;
• Automation frameworks: Puppet, Foreman, Ansible;
• Containerization technologies: Docker, Kubernetes;
• Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.

Highly Preferred:

• Knowledge in Microsoft Azure cloud services and architecture;
• Virtualization solutions: VMWare, KVM;
• Monitoring tools: Nagios, Prometheus, ElasticSearch, Graylog, Grafana;
• Identity Management: FreeIPA;
• Applicable IT Certifications;
• ITIL framework knowledge.
