As an Engineer within the Electrical BoP & Infrastructure department (eBoP&I), you will be a part of a highly skilled team, with focus on the integration of hybrid electrical components such as Photovoltaic (PV), Battery Energy Storage (BES) and Power-to-X (PtX) solutions in Vestas Hybrid Power Plants. 

At eBoP&I we look to improve the reliability of the system by standardizing dynamic components for Vestas Power Plants, such as Capacitor Banks, STATCOM and Synchronous Condensers, ensuring its compliance with global and regional standards. We have team members with both senior expertise from transmission system operators, highly skilled academia- and long industry background. This position is placed in Chennai, India. Responsibilities

  • Develop new and improve existing company standards on dynamic components
  • Take part in qualification of 3rd party vendor components
  • Undertake generic updates of our hybrid and dynamic components Technical Purchase Specification (TPS) 
  • Support technical vendor dialogues with relevant companies in the industry 
  • Take part in the tests and verifications related to the components in qualification process, together with specialized teams colleagues 
  • Conduct Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA)
  • Interface with colleagues from our internal value chain and Vestas sales organization
  • Support R&D projects related to various plant components
  • Support the technology outlook within our field and inputs to our R&D roadmap
  • Develop modular design concepts for hybrid power plants following Vestas internal processes
  • Take part in Supplier Qualification assessments for technical evaluation of 3rd party components such as Power Transformers, Switchgears & HV Cables
  • Develop and maintain EBoP tools & sizing calculations according to IEC/ IEEE standards for passive components
  • Conduct simulations such as load flow, short circuit studies integrating all BoP assets in Power Factory & ETAP

Qualifications

  • Bachelor/ Master Electrical / Power Systems / Similar specialization
  • At least 5-6 years of demonstrated technical accomplishments professional experience
  • Possess a solid understanding of concepts like renewable power plant design, system definition & analysis, as well as grid interconnection
  • Have a proven history of planning and designing eBoP systems, such as, on AC/DC systems, MV/HV equipment and Control, Protection and Relay Coordination & HV Substation design
  • Have a general knowledge of some of the following
  • Wind power plants
  • SVCs, STATCOMs
  • Diesel/gas-gensets
  • Synchronous condensers
  • Other emerging main electrical components for hybrid renewable power plants
  • Have knowledge on relevant IEC/ IEEE standards for electrical components in a substation
  • Be motivated to work within renewable power plants R&D
  • Worked on technical specifications and project documentation
  • Worked on R&D projects following stage-gate development processes
  • Experience in Pre or Detailed design engineering on any Generation/ Distribution power system
  • Worked with Grid operators, Power generators, Utilities, Grid consulting companies, Power plant engineering companies or eBoP components manufacturers etc
  • Experience using the major power system simulation tools such as ETAP, PowerFactory, PSS/E and PSCAD
  • General knowledge of power plant control systems
