Description

As a Software Engineer II at zulily, you are chartered with building the technology that powers the second fastest growing online retailer in history. Our incredible growth means we face new challenges on a consistent basis.  In this position, you will be working on the e-commerce platform and API that supports our mobile native apps. Our mobile customers account for over 60% of our business, so an understanding of distributed systems and highly scalable API services on the cloud is absolutely paramount. The mobile team is very collaborative, fosters a mentoring culture, and values diversity of thought and experience.

 

What you will own, manage and be accountable for:

 

  • Develop and deploy solutions independently and as a team member
  • Participate in design efforts and discussions
  • Review requirements, software designs, and code
  • Own the quality of the deliverables
  • Collaborate across business teams (stakeholders)
  • Occasionally take on-call responsibilities in rotation with other team members
  • Research new technologies to support build vs. buy and rapid growth of the business
  • Design in a mindset of reducing technical debt
  • Consistently delivers work with started timelines

In this position, you must explore new technologies and collaborate with other engineers to design and build world-class technical services.  Your team deploys production code rapidly to keep pace with zulily’s changing business, you are mindful of avoiding technical debt, and you take ownership of your team's roadmap and everything you do.

Qualifications

  • At minimum, candidates must possess a Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or related technical field (or equivalent education plus work experience may be acceptable)
  • Preferred Education: Master's Degree
  • 5+ years expert programming in large-scale, distributed systems in Java, PHP, Golang, Node.js, etc. with a strong preference for PHP and e-commerce
  • Relevant experience with relational / non-relational databases (e.g. MySQL, Oracle, SQL, Mongo, Cassandra, Elastic Search, or Redis)
  • Strong analytical skills with a data driven approach and ability to measure impact of project and product deliverables
  • Strong software design and architecture skills with an eye toward avoiding and reducing technical debt
