JOB MISSION:

Develop and implement New Balance's apparel cost control procedures and policies to enhance organizational performance against key objectives, working to have strong alignment with footwear while staying authentic to the apparel business. Prepare product cost summaries, investigating products to establish manufacturing costs. Must be able to demonstrate a mastery of project management skills by driving the collaboration with Development, NBIL, Product Management, Finance, Vendor partners, along with extended teams keeping the entire value chain informed on key issues and potential risk to successfully deliver quality product at the right price. 

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Responsible for costing management and analysis of all apparel from development through production, including the development, evolution and implementation of the short term and long-term strategic agenda with focus on improved financial margins. All while ensuring transparency of any financial risks and opportunities to internal partners.
  • Optimizing profits by staying well-informed of industry best practices, including yield management and lean thinking, and leveraging them to develop and negotiate pricing frameworks and processes with key vendors. 
  • Develop and deliver costing processes, tools, and training to Development Teams to enable and empower better decision making to increase margins. Conduct cost comparisons by gender, silhouette, COO to ensure optimal GM is achieved. 
  • Collaborate with the Material and Strategic Sourcing teams on material costs and process improvements, providing seasonal volume projections to aid in negotiations and ensuring that updates are communicated in proper cadence with costing calendar deadlines.
  • Collaborate with suppliers, seasonally working with them to ensure expectations are clear, processes are followed, and major deliverables are met. Negotiate and reconfirm MOQ/MCQ and NB Cost Standards as needed. Engages in vendor assessments specific to development deliverables, costing and overall quality of product. 

REQUIREMENTS FOR SUCCESS:

  • BS in Finance, Accounting or Engineering. MS or MBA preferred and a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in Costing, Apparel Development, Engineering, and/or Finance.
  • Expert Excel user with practical knowledge of a variety of computer software applications in spreadsheets, database, word processing, and presentation software (MS Word, PowerPoint, Outlook). Must have the ability to learn and master new software, specifically PLM and Spotfire. 
  • Strong understanding of product cost- skilled in all aspects of costing construction, product knowledge, business experience, and negotiation skills, resulting the ability to identify key cost drivers and keep management informed of potential impacts.
  • A mastery of project management skills by coordinating tasks with the cross functional teams and vendors while keeping the entire team informed on key issues and ensuring all costing timelines are met.
  • Models project leadership, a technical understanding and core values of Teamwork, Integrity, and Total Customer Satisfaction. Adapts to others behavior styles and listens to diverse perspectives to achieve the desired goals of the team.
  • A Strong Communicator with ability for high impact presentations, both verbal and written.

Flexible Work Schedule

Our North American hybrid model encourages rich in-person experiences, showcasing our commitment to teamwork and connection, while maintaining flexibility for associates. New Balance Associates currently work in office three days per week (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday). Our offices are fully open, and amenities are available across our North American office locations. To continue our focus on hybrid work we have introduced “Work from Anywhere” (WFA) for four weeks per calendar year.
