Key Job Responsibilities

  • Manage indirect tax compliance operations and support local controllers with all VAT/GST and other foreign tax matters for EU/APAC regions.
  • Manage, review, and approve the indirect tax calendars and returns and ensure the timely preparation and submission of all tax filings.
  • Ensure that any changes in legislation are reflected in the timely and accurate filing of VAT returns on a global basis.
  • Review and analyze the in-house and/or outsourced VAT compliance tax calculations, work papers, journal entries and reconciliations required for accurate tax reporting.
  • Determine, maintain, and review tax requirements, tax classifications, exemptions, rules, rates and tax updates for ERP and tax systems.
  • Effectively utilize internal systems and reporting tools for analysis to support the business, tax requirements and decision making and to ensure proper tax collections, payments and filing obligations are being met.
  • Perform tax law research, monitor all international tax legislation changes and stay technically current to support tax requirements and communicate recommended business applications, impacts or changes to tax policies and practices.
  • Serve as a consultant to the business on any VAT-related controversy.
  • Serve as a consultant for Navigation projects and other operational developments or planning.
  • Work effectively and collaboratively with the Controller Group and Trade Compliance.
  • Manage relationships with tax advisors to drive and improve efficiency and communication and help manage and minimize external costs.
  • Manage tax technology programs including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office, Power BI, SAP/S4Hana, Tax Engines (OneSource/Vertex), Ariba, E-invoicing/digital reporting and/or other similar tools and technologies.
  • Other tasks as requested by the Global Indirect Tax Senior Manager.

Professional Requirements:

  • 7-10 years of indirect tax experience in either a multinational corporate tax department or public accounting firm required.
  • Knowledge of VAT in both Europe and Asia.
  • Needs to be based in the Lisbon, Portugal Office.
  • Strong tax technical research experience and strong writing skills.

Experience/Education

  • Requires a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or tax law.
  • 7-10 years of indirect tax experience, especially for VAT and GST
  • Microsoft Office Suite of products, SAP, Power BI, Vertex
  • At least 5 years of Big Four experience preferred.
