The Faculty of Computing & Data Sciences (CDS) at Boston University is a university-wide, degree-granting academic unit that augments and complements the traditional cognate disciplines in computing and data science by laying the foundation for innovation-driven, civic-minded computing to maximize the real-world impact of its research, curricular, and co-curricular programs. It is our goal that our programs lead to solution of problems and synthesis of knowledge related to the methodical, generalizable, and scalable extraction of insights from data as well as the design of new information systems and products that enable actionable use of those insights to advance scholarly as well as practical pursuits in a wide range of application domains. 

The Assistant Director of Admissions for online programs will direct all activities relating to the recruitment, selection, and yield of the online Master of Science in Data Science (MS DS) with a particular focus on communications, data analysis, as well as recruitment planning and relationship building. They will be responsible for directing all aspects of admissions, marketing, and growth of revenue-generating online MS programs in the Faculty of Computing & Data Sciences. Reporting to the Director of Academic Programs, the Assistant Director will work closely with CDS faculty and administrative Directors, University offices such as BU Virtual and Marketing & Communications, and the Graduate Affairs team in the Office of the Provost to meet and/or exceed enrollment targets. The Assistant Director will design and execute a master’s enrollment strategy consisting of well-defined marketing, recruitment, and yield plans.

This position is critical to ensure the success of the new online MS DS and in managing our customer service model of admissions from prospect management, coordinating with the external marketing partner, using our CRM (Liaison EMP, customer relationship management system), through confirmed deposit and successful transition into the online MS DS program. This position with work with the Marketing and Communications team, the Enrollment Committee, and the Director of Academic Programs to build a sustainable, flexible model of marketing communications, application processing and yield communications for the new online MS DS. This position will collect and analyze data to inform decision making regarding the online MS DS and other degree programs and will work on special projects focused on the online MS DS.

Essential Functions:

  • Recruit and yield high-quality students while meeting and/or surpassing enrollment targets.
  • Plan and implement all recruitment activities, communication sequences, website updates, collateral builds, and necessary reporting for the new online MSDS in coordination with the rest of the CDS portfolio of programs. Serve as the CRM specialist. Conduct training for other team members on CRM reporting, communication sequences and data management.
  • Serve as primary liaison between CDS, the external marketing partner, and BU Virtual, to ensure seamless joint operations and cooperation.
  • In consultation with the Director of Academic Programs and the Marketing/Communications Office, design and implement communication strategies for all degree programs including print, email, and website communications to effectively position the school and each degree program with a particular emphasis on the online and residential MSDS.
  • Attends all University-wide meetings related to graduate enrollment management, master’s program growth, and graduate admission.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree with 8+ years of experience, or Master’s degree with 5+ years of experience.
  • Experience with admissions and recruitment
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, in addition to an outstanding ability to problem-solve and manage multiple competing priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced growing unit.
