The Role

We are seeking a dynamic Engineering Manager with expertise and enthusiasm for DevOps and Performance Engineering. This role involves leading and cultivating a high-caliber DevOps and Performance engineering team poised for rapid growth. Your leadership will be pivotal in automating deployment, scaling, and refining CI/CD environments, alongside enhancing performance processes and infrastructure to bolster Veeva Safety's operational efficiency. This position requires a hands-on approach and a commitment to driving excellence within a fast-paced setting, ensuring the team not only meets but exceeds our ambitious technological and operational goals.

What You'll Do

  • Recruit, challenge, and reward A-Players
  • Lead the team by coaching and motivating them
  • Ownership of release from an application performance standpoint 
  • Collaborate with various development team leads to address performance issues
  • Implement DevOps practices such as infrastructure as code, continuous integration, and automated deployment that leverage AWS services
  • Promote and implement best practices in observability (monitoring, tracing, alerting, logging) and high availability with development teams

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in managing an engineering/quality team
  • 5+ years of experience in developing commercial software, preferably in Java
  • Hands-on experience with DevOps and/or performance engineering
  • Familiar with distributed computing systems and stack
  • Comfortable with MySQL, Solr, Docker, AWS, GIT, and Artifactory in terms of both tools and systems administration
  • Ability to find the root cause of performance bottlenecks with profiling tools
  • Strong communication skills
  • Bachelor’s/Master’s degree required in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • Candidates local to the Greater Toronto area preferred

Compensation

  • Base pay: $110,000 - $300,000 
  • The salary range listed here has been provided to comply with local regulations and represents a potential base salary range for this role. Please note that actual salaries may vary within the range above or below, depending on experience and location. We look at compensation for each individual and base our offer on your unique qualifications, experience, and expected contributions. This position may also be eligible for other types of compensation in addition to base salary, such as variable bonus and/or stock bonus.
