The Small Appliances Sr Director of Product Management reports to the Executive Director of Small Appliances, and will collaborate with passionate innovators, engineers, and manufacturers worldwide, to develop leading products and consumer experiences. You will have broad leadership responsibility for the product line strategy, end-to-end business profitability, and direct ownership of the Beverage category. This role is analytical and requires strong collaboration between multiple functions including Technology, Supply Chain/Operations, Sourcing, Service, Sales & Marketing, Brand, Product Development, and SmartHome Solutions.

The Small Appliances Sr Director of Product Management is a strategic leadership role with ownership and responsibility for product vision, developing a clear product strategy and path to success including multi-generational product planning, Product-Brand strategy, and program management for the Small Appliances product line. This role also includes managing two direct reports, fostering their professional development while ensuring departmental goals are met.

How You'll Create Possibilities

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for developing, articulating and disseminating the product vision, ensuring clarity in what we deliver to our customers and the challenges we aim to resolve for them.
  • Lead and execute all product related initiatives, including ownership of Product Nomenclature, Product Information Management, Multi-generation Product Plan (MGPP), Multi-generation brand plan (MGBP), and Program Management of the pipeline of smart/connected products to deliver leading connected experiences.
  • Lead, shape, and develop the Small Domestic Appliances (SDA) Product Management team.
  • Understand all key financial metrics and the levers that impact them, with a strong focus on driving growth in top line revenue, EBIT, and cash flow. Maximize the value of the product and development team effort, balancing new models and features with operative work such as on-going maintenance, cost optimization, profitability, SKU productivity, service call rate and performance. 
  • Develop financially justified business cases for new products and product enhancements working with engineering, design, marketing, and sales to refine product concept, evaluate its feasibility and communicate to the organization.
  • Lead collaboration with SmartHome Solutions team to create market leading connected experiences. Define connected/IoT strategies and ecosystems across our entire portfolio of products. Identify and develop key partnership opportunities to complement product offering and strengthen the position of GE Appliances products.
  • Develop and execute strong, innovative product-brand strategies; shape the product architecture to grow GE Appliances leadership in the product segments using the Long-Term Planning process. 
  • Lead and collaborate with GE Appliances cross-functional teams and customers to develop and execute multi-generation product plans, designs, and new product introductions (NPI). Find opportunities to improve and expedite processes.
  • Engage with suppliers at a strategic level, in conjunction with Sourcing team, to drive market leading product innovation/solutions and cost leadership.
  • Partner with the Sr Commercial Director and marketing insights team on consumer research on required product attributes desired by owner/customer and direct cross-functional efforts to deliver on the requirements.
  • Sales enablement: communicate the value proposition of the products to the sales team and work with marketing to develop the sales tools that support the selling process of your products.
  • Work with the SDA Director of Operations, liaising with Service and Quality teams to determine and best practices to transform ownership experience, integrating a complete ownership lifecycle approach to pre/post purchase customer service, warranty, repair, and replacement.
  • Conduct cross-functional product council sessions to provide a solid financial, commercial, technology and operational overview.
  • Develop and define winning experiences for a digital-first go to market strategy. Work cross functionally with Brand and Direct-to-Consumer teams, providing leadership for Commercialization strategy. Become and internal leader in driving monetization of the installed base.

What You'll Bring to Our Team

Required Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree from an accredited university or college
  • Minimum 10 years, combined experience in Product and P&L Management, and relevant Business experience
  • Superior communication and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership in delivering significant improvements to Multi-Generation Product Plans and world-class product quality. Consistently achieves results, hold self and others accountable.
  • Results oriented: proven ability to deliver on commitments and follow through with strong influencing skills
  • Builds strong customer relationships and delivers consumer-centric solutions.
  • Demonstrated experience in effective cross functional and leadership level communications
  • Experience navigating and leading across a highly matrixed organization.
  • Experience in NPI commercialization; knowledgeable of NPI process
  • Demonstrated strength in cross functional and leadership level communications

Desired Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree preferred.
  • Excellent program/project management skills.
  • Proactive leader adept at setting clear priorities, managing and motivating team(s), and personally contributing to task completion.
  • Can articulate the vision and strategy that inspires others, gaining support and commitment and propelling teams into action.
  • Experience in Brand Development or Brand Management a strong preference
  • Experience working in an agile software development team
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience with increasing levels of Product responsibility in B2B or B2C businesses, technology start-up or product companies.
  • Previous experience with IoT/connected products.
  • Cross-functional leadership experience, particularly in commercial roles
  • Previous experience in Appliances or a consumer products business
  • Experience in product discovery, designing experiments to test hypothesis
  • Fluency in the language of software/app development a plus; able to work closely with and influence engineers, knows how to ask questions to get to the best decision. 

Working Conditions:

  • Working conditions are normal for an office environment.
  • Work may require occasional weekend and/or evening work.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 20lbs.
  • 30 - 40% travel required for domestic and/or international travel to customer sites/ plants, etc.
