Our client, four prominent National Pension and Retirement Benefit Funds, headquartered in Washington, DC, is actively seeking a meticulous and proactive Accounting Associate to complement their team. RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure compliance with Fund’s policies and procedures, federal and state laws and regulations, fiscal management best practices, and generally accepted accounting standards.
  • Assist with overseeing the daily operations of general accounting, treasury and systems management.
  • Manage Accounts Receivable including daily deposits, transfers, and postings in Sage accounting software.
  • Record monthly pensioner checks and changes and review for inaccuracies.
  • Manage Accounts Payable, gather and verify invoices received for appropriate documentation and prepare invoice summaries.
  • Assist with daily cash management. Review prior and current day transaction banking reports to ensure proper classification and recording in accounting system.
  • Review, code and process manual checks, wires and ach payments.
  • Reconcile monthly benefit payments, voids and ach returns to Bridgeway registers.
  • Assist in overseeing the preparation of all required financial statements and reports for internal and external use as well as for audit and tax purposes.
  • Manage Form 1099-R reconciliation spreadsheets throughout the year related to lump sum payments, death benefits, etc.
  • Assist with positive pay related to verification of checks.
  • Assist with 401(k) Funding requests and Employer fee mailings.
  • Review the general ledger to monitor accounting inaccuracies and imbalances.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, 2+ years accounting experience preferred.
  • Must possess proficient data entry or keypunch skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Experience in accounts receivable is advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Demonstrating logical thinking is essential.
  • Proficiency in English and mathematics is required.
  • Competence with Microsoft Word and Excel is necessary.
