The Opportunity

CZ Biohub is looking for a Buyer/Purchaser to support the procurement function. The role involves both strategic sourcing and operational procurement responsibilities. You will work with research project teams and functional groups to source and support the procurement of goods and services, including review of contracts and quotes and price negotiations. Procurement activities cover a broad range of goods and services from research materials and equipment to G&A services, including IT software and equipment.

The position will be based in San Francisco, CA either on a hybrid or on-site basis.

You will 

  • Collaborate with research project teams and functional groups to understand their procurement needs to proactively source purchases
  • Define category and sourcing strategies to gain efficiencies and improvements in vendor reliability, product quality and cost
  • Perform risk assessment of suppliers and develop mitigation tactics for those risk elements
  • Gain an understanding of a project or initiative upfront such that related purchases can be identified and aggregated to track against budget.
  • Partner with internal customers on quotes, contract reviews and negotiating terms and conditions and pricing
  • Identify cost savings opportunities that align with achieving organizational goals and meeting financial budget commitments
  • Support daily procurement activities including purchase order submissions and preparing cost/price analyses, where needed
  • Monitor the delivery and receipt of goods, including timely reporting in the system, and troubleshoot as needed
  • Manage the supplier onboarding process for timely set up of new vendors, including establishing billing arrangements for each entity to facilitate streamlined processing of invoices
  • Support the start-up of new Biohub sites for purchases required for both start-up activities and routine operations
  • Support Accounts Payable by monitoring open purchase orders, resolving PO/invoice discrepancies and coordinating change orders with the business. as needed
  • Identify and recommend new and/or improved business processes and purchasing system enhancements
  • Train users on the procurement system and best practices to support an efficient end-to-end process in accordance with the organization’s guidelines

You have

Essential –

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Science or related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of procurement experience in biotech/pharmaceutical industry or research organization
  • Deep understanding of sourcing, category management and procurement best practices that support vendor assessment, qualification, and ongoing management review process
  • Expertise in managing and negotiating vendor contracts
  • Ability to source and evaluate suppliers to acquire best pricing
  • Solid understanding of the procure-to-pay process and internal controls
  • Knowledgeable on taxability of goods and services in a multi-state environment
  • Experience with Coupa, NetSuite or comparable systems
  • Collaborative skills in managing relationships with vendors and internal partners
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong communication skills
  • Capability to prioritize and multi-task effectively

Compensation

  • $92,000 - $126,500
