Job Overview

TE Connectivity's Tooling Teams perform the manufacturing functions related to metal working dies and tool making. They are responsible for completing all assignments to construct, modify and condition metal working dies and may fabricate new gages, cutting or forming tools and fixtures by analyzing blueprints, sketches, models and engineering or shop specifications. They perform precision work to exacting tolerances and dimensions; recommend revisions in design and/or substitutions in material based on machinability or fabrication problems encountered; and solve problems relating to unusual materials, machine settings, fabrication methods, and production process. Every team member is responsible for maintaining housekeeping and organization of the work area as well as following TE Connectivity's EH&S policies and procedures.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • 3D modeling of mold components, hot runner components, standard components.
  • 2D detailing of drawings for mold components, hot runner components, standard components.
  • Create Bill of Materials.
  • Participate in and support Continuous Improvement.
  • Use standard library models to design tools that meet customer specifications.
  • Assist in design of tooling at the direction of the Design Team Leader.
  • Manage single tool design projects when requested.
  • Manage engineering changes within design preparing and issuing files both internally and to outsources.
  • Work together with Design Team Leader to provide key date timing feedback to assist in the scheduling of production.
  • Design water, boring mill and 3D contour features working collaboratively to ensure other design disciplines and design for manufacture.
  • Complete part feasibility studies on upcoming program parts to ensure all aspects are considered for tool design (cooling, steel condition, proper draft etc.).
  • Effectively interact with all departments within the company - Design, Machining, Build, Scheduling and Management.
  • With Designer Team Leader supervision, conduct internal and external design reviews, document results of meetings and implement agreed upon actions.
  • Mentoring of junior Designers.
  • Flexibility to work outside of core hours as required to meet the demands on the engineering department.
  • Maintain confidentiality and integrity.
  • Experience with plastic injection mold design.
  • Ability to complete all mold design elements from preliminary design through final layouts.
  • Have strong communication skills.
  • Must be self-motivated and detail oriented with a focus on quality.
  • Complete parting line development.
  • Component and action modelling.
  • Electrode modelling.
  • Tooling DFM studies.
  • Experience with parametric based solid modelling an asset.
  • Responsible for complete design & surface of a mold from concept to completion.
  • Identify and communicate issues that are undesirable that may hinder the quality and integrity of the finished product.
  • Design & surface projects using established engineering principles and techniques aligned with company and customer standards.
  • Utilize hot runner system to compare drawings to customer requirements, ensuring accuracy and completeness. 
  • Design water cooling system – chart and dimension 3D surface check to avoid collision.
  • Complete final mold design including effective ejection and mechanisms.
  • Create 3D molds ensuring accuracy and feasibility.
  • Interact with manufacturing ensuring clarity and accuracy.
  • Complete engineering changes.
  • Completes any other assignments, duties and projects that may be assigned.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all information received from the customer/company.

What your background should look like:

  • Experience with plastic injection mold design.
  • PTC Creo software.
  • Ability to complete all mold design elements from preliminary design through final layouts.
  • Have strong communication skills.
  • Must be self-motivated and detail oriented with a focus on quality.
  • Strong working knowledge of PTC Creo and Moldex3D in all facets of tool design.
  • Strong mathematical aptitude.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Strategic thinker with demonstrated ability to effectively solve problems.

Compensation

  • Competitive base salary commensurate with experience: $xxx – xxx (subject to change dependent on physical location)
  • Posted salary ranges are made in good faith. TE Connectivity reserves the right to adjust ranges depending on the experience/qualification of the selected candidate as well as internal and external equity.

What TE Connectivity Internship Program offers

To help with their professional growth, we provide access to Mentors via our NAVIGATE platform. Mentors serve as a guide to navigate the organization and provide additional support in their career endeavors at the company. Our program provides a holistic experience for interns that targets professional development and personal growth. 

Our internship program typically runs May thru August and gives students the opportunity to work on projects that contribute to the success of their team and build on their classroom experience. Throughout the 10–12-week program, interns will be provided with:

Timeline

TE Connectivity recruits on campus between September and March for New Grad (FT), Rotational, Internship and Co-op positions beginning in May. Once you have applied to a position, your resume and application will be reviewed. If you are selected to move to the next step in the application process, you will be contacted by a recruiter. Once you accept an offer, the onboarding process will begin in January for interns who have committed to offers in the fall semester and upon acceptance for interns who have committed to offers in the spring semester.
