School Health Registered Nurse

School Health Program, Full Time, Days, 80 hours Bi-Weekly

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Provides preventative health services to facilitate the student’s optimal physical, mental, emotional, and social growth and development. Responsible for planning, implementing, coordinating and evaluating school health services that maximize the quantity of in class time by reducing the incidence of health-related absenteeism. Identifies problems and disabilities and provides such services as case finding, health education, referring to health sources, and direct care in order to help prevent serious health problems that would later be more difficult and costly to address. Functions independently under state and county guidelines and policies.

Requirements

Education – BSN preferred.

Experience - One year experience as a Registered Nurse in an acute care setting. Pediatric experience preferred. Any experience as a School Nurse will be considered in lieu of one year experience requirement.

Licensure/Certification - Current license to practice as Registered Nurse in the State of Maryland, or if resident of a state that participates in Nurse Multi-State Compact agreement, holds Registered Nurse License from that state that is designated as "Compact" or "Multi-State Privilege" using primary source verification and provides additional documentation as required by the Maryland Board of Nursing. RN License from a compact state with a designation of "Single State" does not meet the requirement and nurse must obtain a Maryland license. Current BLS (CPR) in compliance with policy.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities - Ability to work in a self-directed and clinically autonomous manner. General understanding of the purpose and organization of public education. Must be able to successfully multiple tasks, projects and responsibilities. Ability to apply critical thinking in rendering solutions to various issues. Ability to appropriately and effectively communicate with students, parents, administrators and other school personnel.
