The Opportunity

We are seeking a Legal Assistant/Paralegal - Banking (mid-level) to join our Firm. This position provides attorneys, members of the department and other professional staff with diversified, administrative and deal support by handling complex tasks and projects, with limited supervision, throughout all phases and aspects of Banking Practice Area work.

  • Handles complex projects with limited supervision.
  • Organizes and manages electronic and paper files.
  • Assists with the preparation of Banking Practice Area specific materials.
  • Assists with Banking Practice Area specific tasks and projects such as: assists with due diligence; handles UCC lien searches and filings; drafts and updates closing agendas, documents and signature pages, and compiles executed documents for closings; maintains electronic closing rooms; reviews and coordinates delivery of possessory collateral; prepares closing sets with respect to transactional closings.
  • Assists with Banking Practice Area specific internal initiatives.
  • Performs cross-reference and defined terms checks, as needed.
  • Assists with utilizing DocuSign to obtain electronic signatures, as needed.
  • Serves as a Banking Practice Area specific resource and provides guidance to attorneys, members of the department and support staff.
  • Performs non-legal research using various research tools, including the Internet, Westlaw, LexisNexis, PACER and other Banking Practice Area specific websites.
  • Ensures that all files are maintained within department-approved protocols and case management systems and seeks to improve workflow regarding storage and recall of materials.
  • Maintains the integrity of client files.
  • Complies with and understands Firm operation, policies and procedures.
  • Manages Firm resources responsibly.
  • Regular and reliable in-office presence.
  • Demonstrates effective interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills to facilitate effective work relationships with others.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • In-depth understanding of transactional specific concepts and procedures, preferably Banking-specific
  • Knowledge of relevant firm computer software programs (e.g., Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint), with the ability to learn new software and operating systems
  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, organizational, and planning skills
  • Strong research skills and proficiency in using various research tools, including the Internet, Westlaw, LexisNexis, PACER, SEC/EDGAR, and other court-related websites and/or media and financial services
  • Demonstrates effective interpersonal and communication skills, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to work well independently, as well as effectively, within a team
  • Ability to handle sensitive matters and maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and shifting priorities
  • Ability to work well in a demanding and fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work well under pressure
  • Demonstrates close attention to detail
  • Flexibility to travel, as required
  • Flexibility to adjust hours and work the hours necessary to meet operating and business needs

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in a legal assistant position or a position requiring similar skillset, expertise and experience
