Job Summary:

The College of Nursing at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a part-time Associate/Assistant Professor (12 MO). Reporting to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Community Partnerships, the successful candidate will:

  • Conduct clinical teaching and supervision of students in areas of specialization including doctoral level courses.
  • Implement the College’s philosophy, curriculum, program outcomes, and course objectives through expert teaching.
  • Assume responsibility for all autonomous aspects of individual teaching assignments.
  • Use innovative, active learning strategies in the classroom and beyond.
  • Plan clinical and simulation experiences for, and provides direct supervision and evaluation of students delivering nursing care, as needed.
  • Advise students in area of doctoral work; mentor students in evidence-based research and scholarship.
  • Evaluate and provide documented feedback on student performance; be available for remediation of students as required or needed.
  • Orient and maintain current knowledge related to agency/clinical policies and procedures.
  • Grade homework, quizzes, tests, lab assignments, clinical paperwork and other written work in a timely manner.

Required Qualifications:

  • Doctoral Degree in Nursing required.
  • New York State APRN License.
  • National certification required.
  • 5+ years of teaching experience in academia and 8+ years of clinical practice experience in area of specialization.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Evidence of current scholarship.
  • Evidence of national prominence in nursing.
  • Experience in curriculum development.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Teaching experience in Doctor of Nursing Practice education.
