The NYS Public Employees Federation (PEF) is a labor union representing around 50,000 professional,
scientific, and technical workers in NYS government. Members include healthcare, education,
corrections and supervision, youth services, direct care, and other professional titles.
Overview:
This position reports to the Director of Organizing and is responsible for coordinating internal
membership organizing campaigns, which includes identifying, investigating, recommending, and
implementing a course of action to enroll individuals in the PEF bargaining unit as PEF members. The
coordinator would also help identify, recruit, and otherwise assist member leaders where vacancies in
local stewards/leaders occur with the cooperation of division leaders, regional coordinators, or other
member leaders.
Position is based in Buffalo, NY
Responsibilities:
1. Provide organizational and structural development assistance to new and existing PEF divisions.
2. Implement targeted organizing efforts to have individuals assigned to the PEF bargaining unit
become PEF members.
3. Work with regional coordinators, division leaders, member leaders and other PEF staff to
implement new member orientations.
4. Provide organizational assistance to statewide, regional, and division leaders to set up, host, and
follow-up on member meetings, town halls, and other meetings/gatherings.
5. Facilitate team building and campaigns within the Division structure.
6. Initiate and improve information exchange between Divisions and PEF’s Administration when
needed.
7. Act as an informational resource to “pockets” of PEF members who are not in an organized division.
8. Assist in the development of local and/or agency level Organizing committees.
9. Direct field representatives with respect to their job duties of assisting in organizing, specifically
with the goals and tasks set forth by the Organizing Department.
10. Communicate and encourage the purposes, policies, and goals of PEF to its members and non-
members in the bargaining unit.
11. Keep the Director of Organizing informed of all worksite issues in assigned responsibilities in a
timely manner.
12. Design, develop and attend training programs, workshops and seminars related to organizing.
13. Perform assignments on an “as needed” basis to specific sites or situations during crisis periods at
the direction of the Director.
14. Provide organizational assistance to Divisions to map and chart their locations and members within
their divisions.
15. Implement the “Drop Call Protocol”.
16. Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
with the ability to work flexible hours and travel overnight when the need arises.
Successful candidate must demonstrate:
staff, members, the executive team, and elected officials.
Salary and Benefits:
The salary range for this position is $63,154.00 (minimum) - $90,538.00 (maximum)
