Senior Underwriter – Contractors Professional Liability

The Tokio Marine HCC – Cyber & Professional Lines Group is seeking an experienced underwriter to join our Architects & Engineers and Contractors Professional Liability Underwriting Team in our New York, Chicago, Walnut Creek, CA, or Georgia office. This position will report to the Vice President of Underwriting. 

Our Architects & Engineers and Contractors Professional Liability products are designed to provide coverage for specified professionals. As professionals, architects and engineers, scientists and contractors face potential liabilities that place them at considerable financial risk because of the type and quality of services they deliver to their clients. 

Location: Chicago, IL; Mt. Kisco, NY; New York, NY; Walnut Creek, CA or Atlanta, GA 

Schedule: Hybrid (Three days in the office and two days working from home per week) 

Position Overview 

This is a market facing production underwriting role on a close-knit team of highly motivated and productive individuals. You will be responsible for underwriting new and renewal business and developing relationships with our key customers to achieve our teams shared objectives.

Performance Objectives 

  • Production – Achieve your individual premium and productions targets which include:
  • Management and underwriting of your renewal book, achieving a target renewal retention ratio, and servicing your renewals throughout the year.
  • New business premium goals, quote, and workflow management targets
  • Strong Marketing & Relationship Development – In this role you will be responsible for marketing our products and to proactively foster and develop positive relationships with key customers.
  • Profitability and Compliance – Profitability is a pillar in our corporate objectives, we strongly believe that you will develop a profitable book of business if you are disciplined and consciously operate within your granted underwriting authority, within the parameters of the underwriting guidelines, and follow direction given by compliance.
  • Collaboration/Teamwork – As a team we work together to achieve our collective goals, this requires collaborating with your peers on our team and within other aligned business unites including claims, product development, accounting, and operations.
  • Underwriting Expertise –We want you to continually develop your underwriting expertise which will be achieved through conscious learning on the job and with support from us. This is an objective that adds value to our team, but it is also important for your personal development.

Education Requirements 

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Insurance, Science, Engineering or Construction Management or a related field, or the equivalent education and/or experience.
  • Studies toward attaining a Registered Professional Liability Underwriter (RPLU), Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Associate in Commercial Underwriting (AU), Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) or equivalent insurance designation depending on specialty area.

Experience 

  • Three to five years of relevant and progressive underwriting experience in Contractors Professional Liability and Contractors Pollution Liability.
  • Real, proven Contractors Professional Liability experience – a true underwriter background with the ability to generate/write profitable new business.
  • Architects & Engineers underwriting and Pollution liability underwriting experience a plus
  • A following among brokers that specialize in Contractors Professional Liability Marketing experience
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite with emphasis on Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint.

For candidates working in person or remotely in the following locations, the reasonable pay range for this specific position is Walnut Creek, CA, $89,400 – $112,000 annually; New York, NY and Mount Kisco, NY, $93,200 - $117,000 annually. The salary offered for this specific position is based on a number of legitimate, non-discriminatory factors set by the Company.
